2019-20 Roster Construction

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I wouldn’t mind seeing Koby reach for guys like Frank Kaminsky, Dragan Bender, and Marquis Chriss. All underperforming bigs with range, skill and decent athleticism to play the 4 and 5. Could all be had cheaply and develop them to be what their original draft position suggested.

He wasnt all that great here. Overpaid everyone not named lbj. Irving or love

Because he had to. The team had no flexibility with those 3 taking up all the cap. If they lost jr tt or anyone else he signed they wouldn’t have been able to replace them with equal players.

Why? If Pelicans didn't get lucky and get Zion their off season but be pretty bad.

He turned AD into an amazing haul and has quickly rebuilt that team into a playoff contender with or without Zion.

He sure did. Griff has done a helluva job in his short time in New Orleans. He has to be the early favorite for Executive of the Year.

I disagree. Lonzo has been a bust so far can't deny that, Ingram can't hit the three ball, Hart is just another guy. Trading down with ATL then selecting Jaxson Hayes and NAW two guys who don't fit with the rest of what they have. Signing JJ was good. Not too big on Favors. The Italian guy might be good but who knows. I think people are looking at the quantity of what he's added and not the quality.

Griff is doing ok, but he NAW instead of taking someone at 4. Signing Favors. He is not hitting it out of the park as much as people say. I mean yeah he got incredibly lucky that Pelicans got 1 and Lakers got 4.

He also worked for a meddlesome owner and with player that really had more power than he did. IOW, an almost impossible situation.

I hate to say it, but Koby Altman has missed and is missing lots of opportunities to add assets. Griff is 1,000x the GM Koby is. Then again, Gilbert has never really wanted a strong GM. He elevated Koby as he knew he would have great control over him.

He did, but he didn't have an AD here. I doubt we would've gotten more for Kyrie or Kyrie would have stayed.

I like Griff, but I'm not sure he would have done any better than Altman over the past two years.

We don't really know how well Griff can draft. Wiggins was a miss overall, but he turned into Love. Osman was good, but that pick was heavily influenced by Altman. Would Griff have taken Sexton? It seems like Sexton or Shai were the best the team could do at their pick, but would Griff have reached for someone else?

Griff had AD, a desperate Lakers team, and won the lotto. Anyone could look good with that. Not knocking him. I wish him the best, but I'm not sure he would have put the Cavs in any position than where they are now.

He got us a title. He did what needed to be done. He found the pieces we needed when we needed them. And he built a team that probably would have won at least one more title if the single year cap space didn't open up for Durant to go to GSW. He should be honored for that.

But that doesn't mean he would work for every rebuild. He went to New Orleans BECAUSE it had all those chips. He didn't know #1 would come, but he knew they had a lottery ticket. He also knew he could turn AD into assets AND he also knew he'd have cap space. New Orleans is the blank slate the Cavs were not going to be after the title runs.

We like to paint Gilbert as villain, but did we ever think that Griffin asked for more than he knew Gilbert would be comfortable with so he could have his choice of gig after sitting out? I'm not sure that Griffin wanted to be locked into a contract after LeBron - and he knew the Kyrie stuff would come up and LeBron was probably gone.

He built his resume and he knew he could cash in with a team set up for success. Kudos to him, but I doubt he was ever staying.

The Cavaliers 2019-20 team photo just came out:

The one on the farthest left is where we store Brandon Knight's contract, then the Henson contract, then the TT, Clarkson and Delly contracts are right next to it. Somebody left the JR Smith storage unit open... maybe someone will break in and Altman can collect the insurance.

Lots of good assets with expiring contracts to move those players will be attractive to contenders at the deadline plus their expirings
Delly would be one i would like to keep only to mentor garland and sexton
