2019-20 Roster Construction

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I like Okeke, but given our situation, I think a big more want than need. We have Zizic, who claims to be in the best shape of his life, Henson who when healthy was a banger. We also have an array of long shots like Chris,Bolden and the new guy.. I think we will also get a big back when we trade Thompson.

I think we will be in the lottery next year, and I hope we target a wing. Those guys are harder to scavange than bigs, IMHO..

If KPJ develops to a starting level SG with passable defense, it would best for the Cavs to choose between Sexton & Garland...

Liking KPJs slow progression so far... His passing exceeded my expectations so far...

KPJ probably beats out Cedi for the starting SF spot before he takes either of Sexton or Garland's starting spots.

I think it will take alot for the organization to move on from Sexton or Garland anytime soon. We haven't even seen any shift in the plan yet, Sexton and Garland are still playing the bulk of their minutes together. The organization will most likely give them all the chances they can to make it work.

I think in about a month we will have a SF rotation of Windler and KPJ. Because they are two contrasting players, I think they make a very interesting and effective combo. It's frustrating to wait for this to happen, but they should make for an interesting second half of the season.

I would temper those expectations. The team said they are probably going to have Windler start out in the G-league. He hasn't played since summer league and he will have to transition from playing in the Ohio Valley conference to the NBA. My guess is they won't have him in the rotation till after the deadline.

I don't think his transition is going to be easy either. He is noticably thinner than the average NBA wing. He will have to get stronger which won't happen in season. Its also not a given that his 3 pt shot will transition immediately to the NBA.

What is the master plan for this team? With the new draft rules even if they finish
with the worst record they are only guaranteed the 5th pick. Only second level free agents are available to them. Do we try to keep TT and Clarkson and let Delly, Knight and Henson walk? Or do they take on salary for a prospect and/or a draft pick for one or more of our expiring contracts?

We need first round picks and lots of them. No point keeping players like Clarkson and TT, cash them in for picks

I think getting rid of Clarkson is more important than TT. TT can at least set good screens for our guards which is great and will contribute to their success. Clarkson can only take their minutes, and I would rather KPJ move to sg and get more ball handling duties.

The only player they should think about keeping is TT. Knight should be playing over Delly to just see if he can play well and get someone interested in both him and his contract. No one is going to come calling for Delly or Henson as a player at this point, they will be purely expiring contracts.

Knight or Clarkson might be able to be traded for another expiring contract, especially if that expiring contract is a real bad player or injured.

I would trade TT if the value back is right. TT has alot of miles on him for his age. He could end up another Varejao situation. I'm not even sure what you pay TT at this point or how long of a contract you give him.

Nothing I’ve seen tells me that Garland and Sexton can play together. One of them will have to get moved to the bench or traded, eventually. Currently, I would start Delly and Sexton, and have Garland run the second unit, with Porter. Can’y wait for Windl3r to replace Cedi in the starting line-up. Can’t wait to see what we can get for our vets and expirings. Need to break the team down some more, before we can build it back up.

Cavs would be lucky if Porter reaches his ceiling and become a starting caliber SG... that would give the team a more traditional size backcourt...

Agree that the prospect of sexton-garland tandem working long term is unlikely... Personal preference, I would like Garland to panout and stick with the Cavs... As much as i respect Sexton's hardwork and tenacity, I just don't see a team first guy on the court, he is more concerned in getting his volume of shots and right now he is not very efficient at it...

I think Sexton is being asked to be that scorer for this team. They need someone to consistently score a certain amount of points so they can stay in games. I also think they want him to be more of a scorer long term at least with the current roster construction. He has the personality of someone you turn to when the team is going thru a scoring drought or you need someone to close out a game.

I think if Garland had more of an aggressive mentality on the court, then they would want Sexton to work on being more of a distributor. Right now I think they are trying to have them be contrasting players. I could see once Garland gets confident and is more aggressive, they start asking Sexton to distribute and work on that part of his game more.

I just don't think we know what kind of player Garland really is which makes it hard to develop Sexton for them to compliment each other.

We don't have any top 2 title team players, so I really don't think any consideration should be given to position. This is year 1 of Beilein. If we believe in him as the coach, we should consider any and all options.

No one wants to hear this but if they best player on our board is a guard, we should be taking that player. Roster consideration, IMO, should only be given once you have 1 player who looks like a cornerstone piece.

This was why I didn't want Garland at all. There are better pg's in this class, and we would have had another year of Sexton to judge. Dunno who I would have taken, probably Culver.

Taking another pg Jesus it is depressing to me. I would rather take 3 wings and hope one hits than take 3 pgs and have 2 be ok and one be good.
