Everyone is enjoying this Warriors fall to earth so much yet theyre gonna get a really high lotto pick and be immediate title favorites next year when Steph and Klay come back.

The most "exciting" part of the NBA is the off-season.

That doesn't exactly bode well for the league.

To me it’s been an amazing season so far. Giannis, Harden, and Luka are having absurd statistical seasons. Some of the rookies like Morant and Herro have been impressive. Surprise teams like Phoenix and Charlotte have been fun League Pass watches. The early play of Miami, Boston, and Toronto have made the East far more competitive than any of prognosticators thought.

I posted earlier in this thread that I thought the Clippers were the heavy favorites. Nothing I’ve seen has changed that opinion. But at least the other contenders and pseudo-contenders have at least been fun to watch. And no team is so prohibitive a favorite that the season feels pointless (like when the Warriors were dominant).

It's still more open than last year.

At least who can reach the conference fibals and who can win the East.

I do think the Clippers are just gonna bitch slap everyone in the playoffs.

I dunno about title favorites. Obviously they have incredible talent, coaching, and synergy. But their core players will be another year into their 30s. And their supporting cast is not championship-caliber yet. The key for them, aside from lottery luck, will be what they can get for Russell.

I think the Clippers are kind of the perfect team to face the Warriors. The healthy version of the Clippers have incredible perimeter defense and are capable of switching all the Warriors’ motion actions (split cuts, UCLA cuts, pick and roll game with Draymond, etc).

Yeah when everyone was gloating about the Lakers last year, I said, "I want them at #8 so they don't leapfrog us in the lottery". I was told the odds of that would be very low. I doubt GS keeps their pick, but they could easily trade Russel and a top 5 pick for a really good player should they become available.

But the Hawks wanted Young. Young wouldn't have lasted the Magic at 6th. I heard that the Hawks were just messing with us.

I think you can and should be mad at Lebron and Dinwiddie. Again, 1 win against the Nets and we have a potential dynasty.

Can’t be mad at Dinwiddie for trying to win a game. I CAN be mad at a team for not trying hard to win a game, when we knew a loss could come back to bite us in the ass. Sure, Dinwiddie was unconscious. But it should have never come down to that. And I STILL don’t think I make the trade.

Is it true that Joe Charbonneau could open beer bottles with his eye sockets? I had always HEARD but I never saw actual footage.
Im pretty sure thats a fact. Seems like as a kid i do remember seeing a clip of it. Too many people have talked about it for it not to be true.

Let's assume they get lucky and get the top pick.... Just ask Phoenix how easy the draft is... Also, Green is declining, Steph will turn 33 during the next season, Klay will have lots of rust and might never get back to his top form. They will also need to fill the remaining roster spots... They have their work cut out for them. I think the possibility of them hitting the ground running is like 3%...

I will enjoy them getting pounded by every team in the league. I will then enjoy them drafting a bust. Then I will proceed to enjoy Steph/Draymond/Klay being shells of their former selves, and I will also enjoy their front office doing a sub-par job surrounding them with good pieces. If you really think about it, it's the golden age for being a Worrier-hater.

Here's the the thing about really high draft picks.

Their odds of succeeding go up drastically when placed on a really good team.

now that rarely happens because really good teams generally don't have really high draft picks. But here comes an exception.

I would trade it for an established star. Russel plus lottery pick is a really nice package. Consolation prize and lottery ticket.

I think a healthy Clippers team is the strongest candidate, but it's not like it has been the last few yearswith one clear favourite.

About Luka, i said that would be a historically bad trade for the Hawks and i still stand by it. Trae is good and will be solid for long probably, but Luka is just on a whole other level.

Gotta feel ok about Trae though. I mean at least he didn't totally bust, but yeah. I would rather have Luka than Trae + Reddish.

Trae has done a lot better than just "not bust". Definitely a top 3 player from that class.

Luka is a legit MVP candidate in year 2 though, so it will forever be a total screw-up, especially if Cam Reddish busts which I'd bet money on. Plus, Trae is going to need to be protected big time defensively if they ever want to truly compete. And Trae won't ever even be in Steph's stratosphere defensively which is somewhere between below average to average. And Steph had Draymond who's best defensive seasons are all-time great, and truly can guard 1-5 in an elite fashion. Klay is an elite perimeter defender and could handle the hardest PG's, can guard 1-3. In GS 1.0 Barnes was a good wing defender with size, in GS 2.0 Durant was a menace at the rim and absolutely seamlessly fit with Draymond in the front court. Iguodala was an absolutely elite wing defender. Bogut was a total monster defensively too until the latest rash of injuries. David West as well could defend .

Schlenk is trying to model after GS but defensively he's not even close. I like Hurter and Collins but neither project to be anything to write home about defensively. Hunter is a good start but while I like him he'll be lucky to ever be 75% as good as Iguodala or Green on that end.

The Warriors aren't competing with the Clippers next year.

Yeah totally. Trae is way better than a bust. He looks like he could be the best playmaking pg in the league in a couple of years. IF you are going to trade a generational player for another guy, better to get Chris Paul than Danny Ferry.
