I'll play along with Sacramento.

Cleveland trades:
Kevin Love 31.6 million
Dante Exum 9.6 million
Jordan Bell 1.8 million
#5 pick

Kings trade:
Harrison Barnes 22.2 million
Cory Joseph 12.6 million
Bogdan Bogdanovic sign and trade 8.6 million
#12 pick

Why the Cavs do it - I've read they want to win more games now with veterans, and they fill three huge holes with players in their prime: starting SF, high end backup veteran PG who can play defense, swingman with length who can shoot and defend. Nance swings over to starting PF after proving ready.

Why the Kings do it - They retain veteran leadership with Love, clear a lot of long contracts and a logjam at SG, move up in the draft. Love signs off to put up with a bad franchise to live in Napa and eventually open a winery.

I'll help everyone pack and move. #RunIt

The Cavs actually take a bath on current advanced stats and cap flexibility.

Barnes was a break even advanced stats player because of poor defense, and he is on the hook for three more years on a bloated contract. Honestly, he was bloated before Covid-19 when I watched him.

Cory Joseph is on a contract for two more years at a starter level salary and was just awful offensively last season.

People might be surprised at Love's advanced stats. He had a good year, despite the nights off.

But, Cavs would be taking on three guys who can play about 30 minutes a game if the young guys are struggling and give up draft capital in a bad draft. I'd do it, but it isn't a slam dunk.

I'm with you.......I probably do it, feet to the fire but you are basically taking a bunch of meh garbage to take a swing at Bogdanovic continuing to ascend. That is an expensive gamble to me, even though I like him.

My biggest hesitation is probably that at 12, in this draft, there is not a ton of upside there. So you are likely trading Love for Bogdanovic and a crack at a young role player. If the team is trying to become more competitive, I'm not sure how that really accomplishes anything. The only way it makes a whole lot of sense is a draft day trade where someone like Okoro surprisingly slides to 12.......and then you could move Love for two guys who have the potential to be the 3rd to 4th best player on a good team. Beyond that, Kevin continues to provide value......and his game has aged well. I'm more inclined to just hang on to him unless he A. just wants out or B. we are offered something we can't say no to.

The more likely scenario is that Sacramento tries to move Buddy Hield with Cory Joseph to attract cap flexibility, a pick and a star. Seems like Bogdanovic had more trust from the coaches in clutch moments than Hield. I thought about this:

Kings trade:

Buddy Hield - 25 million (est.)
Cory Joseph - 12.6 million
Jabari Parker - 6.5 million

Cavs trade:

Kevin Love - 31.2 million
Dante Exum - 9.6 million
Kevin Porter Jr. - 2 million
Spurs 2nd rounder in 2022

The negative with that trade is Hield is a true shooting guard, and there's a lot of overlap with Collin Sexton's game.

I like this trade *except* giving up on Porter. Id rather trade Sexton than him (maybe even getting #12, or a future pick back). Or swap out Bogs for Hield.

^I personally would prefer to keep KPJ and the #5 pick and let Sac send Hield to a team that needs a SG. Due to his age/contract a contending team might have more interest? Maybe a 3 team deal where Hield ends up in Philly and let them deal the pick/young player?

Random thoughts:

1. We are not going to get a reasonable value for a Love trade. I think it's better to keep him (and TT, if he agrees to a team-friendly deal) for veteran leadership, and surround him with pieces to get the max out of him. That means, we need a good distributor (like Rubio, Love's Wolves teammate).

2. Not just Love, we may have to keep everyone in the roster and give them another chance (sans the expiring contracts of Exum and Drummond, if he opts in)

3. I see one of these three two-team trades possible -
-- with the Suns (they want to move up the board and may trade picks with Atlanta, per some articles. They might agree to Exum + Garland + pick swap for Rubio),
-- with the Kings (they have to clear space for Bogdanovic extension - might trade either of Barnes/Heild. If Drummond opts in, his expiring contract should settle the deal),
-- with the Hornets (Batum + pick for Drummond).

4. There can be some multi-team deals in which the Cavs may get involved. CP3, Ben Simmons, Beal etc might be traded.

5. I'd like to see Love, Nance, Cedi, KPJ, Windler, and at least one of Sexton/Garland remain a Cav

6. As much as we may dislike it, the Cavs might draft a guard again. If we do not trade the pick, I see us drafting either Ball, or Hayes, or Avdija (in that order of preference). Haliburton would also be a good choice.

Someone help me understand the Porter obsession on here? He showed some promise.......but if he can net us someone like Hield......a 20 PPG scorer, who's 27 and an elite wing floor spacer, I do that in a heartbeat. The odds Porter becomes as good as Hield are exceptionally low.

True......but I think relative to his production and age, Hield is actually on a pretty reasonable deal. Especially with it being structured similar to Love's, with declining cap hits. There's not a ton of 20 PPG / 40% 3PT volume wings out there. So if it is not an ideal fit, I think that is ok relative to the value he provides......and if Garland develops, having that elite spacer next to him to keep defensive white wash away from P&R would be perfect.

If Sacramento has soured on him and we could acquire him in a deal that doesn't include #5, you suddenly have a really competent scoring backcourt and create the opportunity to then opt for someone like Okoro or Vassell, that are just ideal fits as tough wing defenders.

I'm sure when Sacramento hires a GM they will shoot for the #5 and Love, I just don't know if I'm okay with it if they are giving up either Windler or Porter as well. Cory Joseph's contract is that bad.

Hield's salary jumps to $24 mil next season and don't particularly like the fit/overlap with Sexton who along w/ KPJ is alot cheaper the next few years. Of course we have Dan and his pocketbook so maybe there is more salary flexibility than most teams going forward. I suppose too we will have to wait for the new cap numbers and potential smoothing before these types of trades are considered..

I agree with drafting more for talent than for fit at the early stages of a rebuild. But I absolutely think fit should be considered when making major acquisitions, and you make a good point about Hield. If he was a plus defender, I'd feel differently.

Based on his play last year where would Porter jr. go in this draft? I think he would go top 10.
If the Kings want to make a deal lets do it without Porter jr. he's the one guy that came out of the draft last year
that shows real potential. Porter is a future 20 ppg scorer in my mind. I do like some of the ideas thrown around to make the team better
but lets trade Garland/Windler or 5 before dealing porter.

The 76ers have 130m in salary committed to 5 players and 147m total in 10 players
they have signed for 2021. They also have 4 second round picks and a 1st round pick.
Not that i would like the cavs to take on salary but would like to get one of the early second round picks.
