2019-2020 Cavaliers fantasy trade thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I like the player movement. I just worry that we'd still be too far away to be giving up 2 of our next 3 first round picks. The 2021 draft is likely to be very good, but this trade would actually lower the value of our pick in that draft. Is Simmons -- who has great skills but is also flawed - really worth two first round picks, plus a diminished draft position in the 2021 draft?
Personally, I believe he is.

In terms of players I'm confident would bring winning basketball to Cleveland, he's top 10 in the entire league for me.

I agree he'd have a good shot at bringing winning basketball to Cleveland. I'd just worry that what else we'd be giving up would have us topping out as a treadmill 5-8 seed. I suppose I do see a path where it might work. But that really would require Sexton and KPJ both to become all-star players, and probably Windler become a more athletic, slightly worse shooting version of Korver.

I no longer believe the treadmill of mediocrity that everyone has always been concerned with (including me the last time LeBron left) actually exists. What team are we trying to avoid becoming?

The only treadmill is the treadmill of losing, and we're stuck on that in the worst way.

We didn't dump all that money into role players like Nance and Osman just to keep losing for the duration of those contracts.

Let's make a move. Hell, re-sign Tristan, too. Then, use whatever exceptions we have to try and bring in another usable rotation guy. Maybe a guy like Dragic?

Win a few games, have some success, and see where it goes from there.

I'm not saying to keep losing. I'm saying that mortgaging the future for a guy that I personally don't see as putting us into title contention isn't the way to go. I think this team will play better ball next season with a better coach, and with another year of maturity for our younger players. Two first round picks and a lower pick in 2021 for a guy who takes less than 4% of his shots from outside 10 feet, and is signed to a monstrous contract going forward...I just dunno.

It's not the getting better part that bothers me -- I'm not advocating tanking. It's the future picks that could otherwise enable us to build a team around the guys we have.

I think Ben Simmons would easily be a top 10 player in the NBA for us. His contract is a huge positive for me because we'd have a 23-year-old star locked down for his prime years.

So, if you really think we'll play better under a better coach (whoever that may be), then doesn't it make sense to get a major talent upgrade?

Having Sexton on the team makes it really tough to build a winner. Simmons being able to guard every position on the floor at an elite level while providing playmaking on offense is such a rare thing, but so necessary if we're going to move forward with Sexton on the team.

I don't care where Simmons scores his points. He's a great player and we'd be getting shooting from the other four positions.

I feel the same way on this.

If we must trade one of Sexton/Garland for a veteran PG, there are not many we can get for a reasonable price. One name I can think of is Rubio. Being a great distributor, he could bring out the best in Love and Drummond.

But I do feel that the young guards that we have will become better this year. Windler might also add some much needed outside shooting.

Good bump. I still love the idea of getting Simmons here alongside Sexton. He's the perfect lead guy for us if we're going to move forward with Sexton on this team.

I'll gladly pay a hefty price to make it happen, but it's likely a pipe dream.

Here is another trade idea floated in B/R.

G Collin Sexton, G Kevin Porter Jr., PF Kevin Love and 2022 first-round pick (via Milwaukee Bucks)
for
PF Giannis Antetokounmpo and PF Ersan Ilyasova

I don't like the trade idea, though.

Wait what is this? Someone actually posted this as a serious trade?

Yep, you can click on "another trade idea" part of my previous post or here.

Two other trade ideas I have read about:

1. Exum for Aminu in trade with Magic. Some picks may be involved. But I wonder if Magic, or anyone, will take Exum. The idea behind the trade, as mentioned, is that the Magic will save $9 million (Exum has 1 year, Aminu has 2 years remaining).

2. CP3 for Drummond, Garland, and pick. I am not sure if either party would be interested. The Cavs will definitely benefit in the near future, though.

That OKC trade is horrific for the Cavs. The Thunder ain't getting out of CP3's deal without attaching picks to him.

Here's a trade idea:
Cavs receive: Picks #21 & #31, Dwight Powell, Delon Wright & Maxi Kleber
Mavs receive: Andre Drummond

Why? Cavs consolidate Drummond into premium assets, taking some bad contracts in the process. Delon Wright could be a nice bench piece, & he's the type of oversized pg the Cavs are looking for. Powell is coming off an injury but he's a hard worker. Kleber is a solid rotational piece. The picks could be used to fill holes in the roster. I'm looking at guys like Achiuwa & Saddiq Bey if they fall.

For the Mavs, they clear enough room to have a shot at Giannis. Drummond gives them a 1 year solution at center.

Cleveland - Minnesota

Cleveland receives: James Johnson Picks #3, #16 & #33 in this years draft.

Minnesota receives: Cedi Osman, Larry Nance Jr. & 2021 unprotected first.

Why? Cleveland has some holes to fill, we add some picks in this draft to do so.

Minnesota trades out of this draft in favor of what is considered a stronger draft class & receives a couple role players on team friendly deals in the process.

Giving up an unprotected 2021 first to get more picks in this draft is HUGE dealbreaker

So, four picks in this year's draft? And we give up two guys we still think has a nice ceiling, PLUS next year's unprotected pick where the draft class is arguably much better than this year's!

I see where you are coming from. The time we should have had spent watching live sports have been spent in 'scouting' draft prospects. And the more we do that, the more we feel attached to a particular prospect or two.

Think of it, "guys like Achiuwa & Saddiq Bey" might already be in our roster by the names Larry Nance Jr and Dylan Windler.

If we are lucky, we will have the #1 or #2 pick, and pick a talent that will contribute immediately.
