2019/2020 Roster

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
What role do you think Knight plays? I look over and over this roster and he just increasingly looks like the odd man out. Even off the bench we have Delly, Clarkson, and KPJ who all handle the ball. Delly is great off the ball, so sure, but I don't see a slot for Brandon at all. He isn't a great catch and shoot guy, and he isn't a defender. That slot is already overfilled.

Clarkson played some 3 last year, so I guess we could see Delly, Knight and Clarkson but that would be not my favorite option.

My guess is Delly will sit to begin the season if everyone is healthy. Knight play limited minutes while they showcase Clarkson and try to get a deal for him earlier in the season like they did with George Hill. Then they will let Knight showcase himself for a deal at or closer to the deadline.

I swear to God if I ever see Beilein run Clarkson at the 3, I'll never watch another Cavs game.

Yeah it sucks. Who do you see sitting, assuming we have even a 10 man rotation?

We have 64 million dollars of expiring. Which is a shit ton.. I think guys like Thompson, Henson will be pretty easy to move to teams that have injuries, in exchange for future assets. Knight is harder, because he is not very good. Clarkson is more productive TBH.

Initially I think the cavs will be cautious with Garland. There is no need to push him into high minutes as a rookie, like they did Sexton. So that means the other guards will get time, and I think that means Clarkson mostly, followed by Delly. I do not see KPJ getting many minutes at all unless he is really stellar, and even then it might be more at the three, where we are pretty weak. I also think they will continue to give Sexton a lot of minutes. He managed to do it last year without serious injury, and it helped him improve a bunch. This year he will be stronger. If he backs up his second half performance from last year, they have a starting caliber guard in the bank, and they can be patient with the new guys.

There is a lot to figure out early in the season. I think they will work to solidify Sexton, keep Nance and Love happy, and bring along the three rookies. The rest of the team will be under the go big or go home lens. It is possible Zizic takes a step forward this year, if he is in fact in better shape. If he does not make progress though, I think he is gone in favor of whoever we bring back for TT or Henson. Cedi is in a similar position. He has been borderline good for awhile, but if he does not step it up a notch, I think they are done with him. Everyone else on the roster is literally a long shot lottery ticket. Either they shock the world and become an asset or they go back into the swamp of the could have been players.

AV turned down the ring, which I think shows a lot of integrity. Would have loved to have him for the 2015 finals

I've been told he didn't exactly turn the ring down after all...

If I was told at the start of the year that I had to run a ten man rotation, I'd probably go:

PG - Sexton / Knight
SG - Garland / Clarkson
SF - Osman / Windler
PF - Love / Nance Jr.
C - Thompson / Henson

I'd rather guys like Zizic, Porter Jr., etc. get the minutes, but we need to showcase guys like Knight, Clarkson, and Henson early on so we can try to set a deal up for them.

Yeah it's really tough and not very obvious. Zizic deserves minutes and the minutes he played with Klove, he was really good and they basically never ran that lineup. That was 2 scorers that could rebound and score, and Zizic was the best defensive center we had last year(not saying much).

Knight is pretty obviously a sg to me. All the people saying he was the pg, I just don't think so. Delly not running the 2nd unit seems insane the way he shored up Clarksons game and made him seem like a valuable player. Delly is showing in fiba how valuable he is. He showed it last year on the team too IMO. Knight showed he might still be an NBA player. Also, man KPJ not getting minutes seems crazy. Not getting minutes for Windler would be an even dumber move though. I think KPJ is almost exclusively a 3 until some guys are moved.

And just to be completely honest, I think your lineups are 100% reasonable. I can post an alternative one that I think is better, but is no more valid. I just don't think there is a clear best sg, SF, Center or pg. Too many guys are up for 7th 8th and 9th best player and not enough 2nd, 3rd and 4th best players.

The only thing I would change is I'd swap positions between sexton and Garland because garland has a quicker pull-up, which is an asset in the NBA.

If I was running the team and strictly trying to develop players and eventually win ballgames, my rotation would be a lot different. Delly would be playing with the young guys. Clarkson and Knight probably wouldn't see the court.

I just think this is a ten-man we're most likely to see since this season is also going to be about asset collection for guys like Clarkson, Knight, and Henson, and not just strict development of the young guys.

So they never offered? Trading AV was about the only thing i regret that year.

No I heard he took it! This is from a Brazillian who knows him. But I can't confirm myself.

Teams will likely want the Cavs to take back salary of an over paid player with multiyear contract and we also get a prospect and/or a draft pick. Unless it's a great deal i would expect the Cavs to take the salary savings and let more expirings walk than are traded.

yeah FA market is weak next summer so no team is giving up any assets just for expiring's unless that player helps them this season and there are no shortage of cheaper expiring's etc.
Cavs will probably not move any of these players at the deadline if it means they have to eat a big contract to do it.
They will anticipate calls about maybe 1 big and 1 guard to potentially get moved for a different expiring player or players with a couple mediocre 2nds attached with players coming back being tank commanders .

Cavs can afford to take back up to 60 million in the trade outs of vets, because vet minimum. I could see us taking injured players with two years on their deal, who become expiring next year.

You might see contenders moving a bad contract and 1st to get a productive player like TT or Clarkson to actually shore up a weakness while getting off bad money. It would not be for free agency this year, but just to clean up the cap and pay less tax in the future.
