2019/2020 Roster

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I was more so referencing his age not his contract situation. He's already 27. His age doesn't fit the time line.

Doesn't matter. He is just a backup to our backup hopefully. I expect him to get minutes due to injury only.

It doesn't look like the Cavs got an extension done with Cedi. Not sure of the technical details or effects of that. Or what it means for his future here.

He helps with flexibility for the season though. If Henson, TT, Knight, and Clarkson are shipped off, I think there is an easy 9 or 10 man rotation already on the roster. Cedi and/or Mckinnie can be a small ball 4 and that allow us to keep Nance at center if he doesn't develop his 3 pt shot. Nance, Zizic, and Love are the big man rotation and Cedi or Mckinnie soaks up the left over PF minutes. It also allow KPJ and Windler to not have to play out of position because of depth.

I don't think there is any point to extending Cedi right now. They still don't know what they really have with him. He still needs to play more consistently. I think Koby extending Nance taught him a lesson in extending someone too early. They will still have Cedi as a restricted free agent.

Cedi needs to improve a fair bit this season

probably just there to give meniscus injury advice to Garland since McKinnie has torn his more than once.lol
I think this guy is good enough when healthy to outplay Osman

True. Doesn't make sense for the Cavs or Cedi to do an extension now. Cedi will get a better offer from the Cavs if he improves this year. If Cedi doesn't improve from where he was at last season, the Cavs shouldn't bother keeping Cedi on the books, because last year Cedi made average look really good.

I like claiming McKinnie. Cavs are desperate for a quality SF right now and it sticks it to GSW. But at the same time, McKinnie is the guy that GSW waived to make room for Marquese Chriss, a player that the Cavs could have retained if they offered $0.01 over min salary, which they didn't.

When have you seen and evaluated him? People keep talking about him, but he's never really played NBA minutes. His Per36 is like 14 points extrapolated from 4.7 per game in under 15 min.

I'm not trying to call you out or anything. Did he play long stretches last season? I didn't pay much attention to the Warriors last season. Seems like there isn't much tape. I can't imagine he will perform better on this team where we would need him to do something as opposed to a team where no one in their right mind would guard him.

Think he had a few big minute stretch when Durant missed some games, no idea how he went but he was starting for a bit

The Warriors had some nice things to say about McKinnie.

“It’s a really, really difficult move to make because we have so much respect for Zo and not only his talent on the court, but character off the court,” Kerr said about McKinnie Friday. “He’s been fantastic, just a real pro. He’s the kind of person you want on your team. And he’s an NBA player. He helped us win a lot of games last year; helped us get to the Finals. He’s everything you want from a player in your locker room in terms of being a great teammate and great worker.”

Sounds like a pretty good get for $1.5 million.

Nice column on Clarkson today about going to Kobe's two-day summer camp.

Sounds like he got a lot out of it. He's in great shape and looking at having a career season. He's been working on off-the-ball movement and 3-point shooting specifically.

It occurred to me that all five Cavs on expiring contracts will be super-motivated to have their best seasons in order to set up what will probably be their last big paydays. Thompson, Henson, Knight, Delly, and Clarkson will all be 30 or older when their next contracts expire, assuming they get a 3- or 4- year deal. They're in the prime of their careers and the next contract they sign will probably be their biggest, so this year is huge for all of them. That may be a factor people are overlooking when they discuss how the Cavs will do this year.

In addition to the five players who are playing for their next contracts we also have a couple of others who put in a lot of work in the off-season; Larry Nance Jr (20,000 three-point shots) and Collin Sexton (stronger upper body after a summer in the weight room).

On the NBA channel's Cavs preview they showed the portion of the presser where Love was saying he thinks the Cavs are going to improve faster than people expect. That wouldn't surprise me. We have a combination of veterans who are on the last year of their contracts and highly motivated younger players like Nance and Sexton plus a couple of high upside rookies in Garland and Porter.

I'm not a big Cedi Osman fan, although I love his attitude and effort, but his skills should translate better in a more uptempo style of play than what we had last year when the Cavs had the second slowest pace in the NBA. Pushing the ball up the floor and trying to get into the offense quickly will benefit Cedi. He's not much of a factor in the half-court offense. I'm not saying he's going to be transformed into a good player but this more movement oriented system seems better suited for what he brings to the table.

It will be interesting to see if he's more productive this year and how much playing time Winder and McKinnie can carve out of Cedi's minutes, or even replace him as the starter.

What about a frontcourt of TT, Love, and Nance?

Love and Nance spot up in the corners, Sexton on the wing, while Garland and TT run a center pick and roll. One thing for sure, we wouldn't give up many offensive rebounds with that front line and we would get quite a few.
