2019 53-man roster news

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The earlier twitter post said after week one, which is where the confusion with this whole thing started.

No, I get that.

In my post before the one you quoted, I said why that was flawed.

That tweet was assuming we were releasing him to avoid paying him a guarantee ("...who will likely sign him back at a slightly smaller salary after Week 1 to avoid a guarantee").

The release had nothing to do with avoiding paying a guarantee, so there would be no reason for us to wait til after Week 1 to re-sign him.

To put this in simpler terms, this is what it seems like happened..

*We needed to clear 3 roster spots

*We knew we were going to put Forbes on the IR, but wanted him to be eligible to come back this season.

*If we would have placed Forbes on the IR before 4pm today, he would have been forced to miss the entire season.

*We still needed to clear a 3rd roster spot

*We approached Robinson to discuss the idea that we cut him to clear a spot, but then bring him back after placing Forbes on the IR. And in exchange for being a good sport, we'd increase his guarantee.

Nothing regarding any of that would prevent him from playing Week 1.
This definitely helps clear it up.

However, this seems extremely rare to do.. Unless I just haven't been paying attention about teams cutting a player, then re-signing him following other additional moves.

Seems rather risky, but I'm also not too worried about another team jumping in and offering him a better deal, in which the Browns would lose Robinson afterwards.

I'd be thrilled if any of this meant Dorsey going after Trent Williams, but it seems like that is unlikely at this point and time.

Still a wild move here, but I trust Dorsey knows what he's doing.

Doesn’t seem like it will play out like the Boozer situation.... He’s not that valuable, is he?

What exactly are they doing with Robinson and how is it actually saving us money?

We needed to clear 3 roster spots for our waiver claims. Forbes will be out for a while but we wanted him to be eligible to return this season. The only way he is eligible is if he is placed on IR after 4pm today. We needed 3 spots clear before then. We worked out an agreement with Robinson in which we'd cut him, then re-sign him after Forbes goes on the IR.

It's not about saving us money. It's about making sure Forbes is eligible to return this season while also having 3 corresponding moves to fit in our waiver claims before then.

Stopped my girlfriend from getting an RSJ Cards Jersey about two weeks ago. RSJ was oddly in her top five favorite Cards outside of Larry, Chandler Jones, and Christian Kirk.

Perfect signing for me continuing to convert her to a full time Browns fan.

The move is merely to keep us on equal footing with the best front offices.

Call it tbe Demaryius Thomas loophole.

It’s a starter on a one year deal with little to no guaranteed money. It is kinda a rare situation. But doesn’t seem that rare.
