2019 Around the MLB

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Aaron Hicks 7 yrs $70m to the Yankees.

Hicks is good but not sure about extending him into his age 37 season with his injury history. But the $10m aav isn't bad...

Twins are trying to outright a speedy, solid defensive OF in Zack Granite. Should we try to get him? @AZ_ @Derek

from what I can tell we already have him in Naquin, don't see the point.

1 year in majors was ok, 26 year old, didn't play in 2018, I mean what is there that we don't have in the three headed monster of Zimmer, Naquin and Greg Allen?

The difference between him and Naquin is he is a plus defender in the OF and better overall speed (Over 50 in a minor league season) He is just a speed guy with little power (won’t ever get above 10)

8 yrs $255m for Arenado with an opt out after 3 yrs

Jesus. Is there any reason for us to believe that Lindor isn't going to get more than that?

Depends on how much teams value Lindor's glove over Arenado's.

Arenado is undeniably the better offensive player, but Lindor plays a more valuable defensive position at an elite level (yes, I know Arenado is an elite 3B as well)

I've had a group of "franchise position players" grouped together for a few years. Trout, Harper, Arenado, Machado, Lindor, Correa. Now, it seems like Correa/Harper have fallen towards the bottom of that list, with Trout #1, and I think Arenado and Lindor are at that #2 spot. Give baseball another two years, as salaries tend to rise, and slap the shortstop premium on Frankie... especially if he tells teams he's staying in Cleveland and they really try to get him to leave by offering crazy money. Would it be out of the question for a team to offer like 12 years, 400 million?

I actually feel no team will offer a greater length than 10 years and its quite possible in the new bargaining agreement they may not allow that long of contract anymore in a sense. Lindor coming out and being a free agent what around 27, you could get away with the ten year offer, but honestly I feel we arent going to see them much period anymore. Teams have been shying away from the extra years the past few seasons. Though there also is a player out clause from both Arenado's and Machados contract which may become common place in a long contract. New bargaining agreement in what 2021 will change some of the dynamics in the situation it feels like.
