2019 Around the MLB

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
If Callaway joins Madden in LA, it will be interesting to watch & see if the Angels look to target/ acquire any arms from Cleveland & NY Mets...

Worked alongside Chaim when he was in Minor League Ops with the Rays.

Absolutely brilliant dude who is a key to the Rays success and has been for a while. Absolute superstar and one of the brightest people I met in seven years bouncing around baseball.

This reminds me of when Friedman went to LA and you just knew they’d wind up turned around with regards to how they run a minor league system and develop talent.
Was he responsible for the Yandy Diaz-Jake Bauers trade?

That’s a pretty poorly researched article.

They treat Kluber as a negative asset, but if we didn’t want to pay him next year, we could have just declined his option.

Joel Sherman is writing to get hits and interest in his articles. It is a one sided view from a New York angle. I sure that he did not look up the needs of the Indians.

As far as a Yankee trade for Lindor - I don't see it happening. They will try to peddle some assortment of Frazier, Garcia, Andjuar and lesser pieces. I can't see Andujar or Frazier on the Indians due to their major defensive problems and Frazier's poor attitude. Garcia is only 5'9 and some scouts see him as a reliever. The Indians will ask for Torres and the Yankees will say no and trade talks will end.

Saw that Marcus Semien was an AL-MVP finalist and was about to bitch about it, then I looked up his numbers and holy hell, that dude had an amazing year.

If you're all interested, here's the finalists for each award. I bolded who I think should win.

AL MVP - Mike Trout, Alex Bregman, Marcus Semien
NL MVP - Cody Bellinger, Anthony Rendon, Christian Yelich
AL Cy Young - Gerrit Cole, Charlie Morton, Justin Verlander
NL Cy Young - Jacob deGrom, Hyun-Jin Ryu, Max Scherzer
AL ROY - Yordan Alvarez, Brandon Lowe, John Means
NL ROY - Pete Alonso, Mike Soroka, Fernando Tatis Jr.
AL Manager - Rocco Baldelli, Aaron Boone, Kevin Cash
NL Manager - Craig Counsell, Mike Shildt, Brian Snitker

I'm giving Bregman the MVP this year. He's entered Trout's league.

Anyone else a little miffed that Shane Bieber wasn't a finalist for the AL Cy Young? I thought he certainly had a case to be in the top three, although not to win it over Cole or Verlander.

Unfortunately, Morton had superior stats. Better K/9, better ERA, much better HR/9.

Bieber had more ~18 more innings and a better BB/9.

@Wes I also agree with Urban, if you look at the top 3, they were better than Bieber in the main categories that usually gets you into the Cy Young race.

looking forward though it’s nice having 4 guys when healthy that can get into the Cy Young race. I said awhile ago I felt 2020 was going to be a special season for the tribe.

Agreed that Cole & Verlander well in front of the rest.
Next group likely Morton, Bieber, Lucas Giolito, & Clevinger. Not upset Bieber not in top 3. Lets see how the rest of top 10 shakes out in the AL Cy Young voting...

On a different note, from what I can see and tell from rumors it looks like Minnesota is going to spend some money this offseason coming up. Most of their top 30 prospects are projected to be coming up in 20 and 21 season since majority finished at AAA or AA this last season, but I didn’t see a ton of starting pitching, so they won’t go get Cole, but any of the tier 2 starting pitching will be fair game and so will be a top end reliever/closer on the market. They are going to add 40 mil+ to the pay roll in pitching in shorter term deals to try and win now. Minnesota won’t be as lucky next season, but the Indians FO needs to make sure they find that bullpen arm in my mind that they need to help out Hand.

$40m is a lot to spend, but they also have holes at 3-4 spots in their rotation. Odorizzi taking the QO would instantly slash their budget in half.

I assume they bring back Odorizzi and make a splash with Wheeler or Keuchel

I’m expecting Odorizzi to resign, and getting one of the top free agent starters and one of the top relievers on the market. My guess is they won’t be making trades to fill in the holes but signing guys in free agency to

Why would Odorizzi throw away all that money? He's not that old is he??
