2019 Around the MLB

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Interesting.

I scanned the article, and I'm not sure what to think of it.

I assume you're more educated on the topic, what are your thoughts?

I understand both sides.

Minor league baseball is wrapped up in the fabric of small-town America, with some really fun and interesting history.

But the product is bland, a disappearing fraction of the players will ever make it to the big leagues, and development is a challenge across teams. This elimination would mean a tighter squeeze on talent within the leagues and the opportunity for greater realization of potential, while the independent leagues could take some of the run off and expand their leagues to give players a chance at continuing to play and get better.

With that said, Major League Baseball must counter this with improved working conditions for their athletes, improved salaries and travel between cities even at the lower levels.

The current structure is unsustainable and withering away, almost wholly unprofitable. So the need for change is apparent, perhaps this is a first step toward rectifying the issue.

Initially saw it as a bad thing. I guess how could you not from the headline "MLB Proposal Would Eliminate 42 Minor League Teams" ?

Seems to make sense though, especially if the below goals are sincere:

"From the perspective of MLB clubs, our principal goals are upgrading the minor league facilities that we believe have inadequate standards for potential MLB players, improving the working conditions for MiLB players, including their compensation, improving transportation and hotel accommodations, providing better geographic affiliations between major league clubs and their affiliates, as well as better geographic lineups of leagues to reduce player travel."

if the Yankees add Gerrit Cole and Francisco Lindor in the offseason, do they leapfrog the 2019 Astros for best team since the 27 Yankees? Obviously the price tag for Lindor is a factor and getting Cole to sign on the wrong coast will be a challenge.

Too many wild cards to say right now.
  • Judge has missed significant time the past two seasons.
  • Stanton has missed significant time in three of the past five seasons.
  • Team is paying Jacoby Ellsbury $21 million next season.
  • Gardner and Betances are all free agents who figure to get pretty solid offers.
  • Paxton, Judge, Sanchez, Kanhle, and Green are all arb-eligible.
  • Torres, German, Voit, Frazier, and Wade are all pre-arb eligible.
Team could look very different next year. Adding Cole and Lindor obviously wouldn't hurt though.

Read the article and the writer seemed more convinced that the Yanks could get Lindor vs getting Cole. Not sure what the Yanks could offer or who they would be willing to give up that would interest the FO.

What article?

Also, the odds of the Indians trading Lindor to the Yankees at any point, let alone this off-season, are next to zero.

If Lindor were available, I'm skeptical the Yankees could put together the best package for Lindor

Who is the headline piece?

I'm sure Gleyber Torres would have the Indians attention, but I also highly doubt the Yankees are willing to part with him

Deivi Garcia looks like an intriguing piece, but his frame is concerning. You can never have enough pitching, but the need isn't all that dire for another guy at/near the MLB level.

Scouts love Jasson Dominguez, but he's 16 years old

Wonder how much this has to do with the articles coming out a year or two ago about the poor living conditions of minor league players.

Worked alongside Chaim when he was in Minor League Ops with the Rays.

Absolutely brilliant dude who is a key to the Rays success and has been for a while. Absolute superstar and one of the brightest people I met in seven years bouncing around baseball.

This reminds me of when Friedman went to LA and you just knew they’d wind up turned around with regards to how they run a minor league system and develop talent.
