Let's face facts here. Hue isn't going to survive this. The Browns are staring at another 1-15 season and I don't think anyone could justifiably come back from a 2-30 stretch. He'll either be fired, or he will resign at the end of the season.

So without further ado, let's discuss some possible candidates for the next head coach of the Cleveland Browns.

Group 1: NFL Coordinators

Defense

Matt Patricia, DC, New England Patriots
-43 years old, 6 years as a coordinator

Teryl Austin, DC, Detroit Lions
-52 years old, 4 years as a coordinator

Mike Vrabel, DC, Houston Texans
-42 years old, 1 year as a coordinator

Paul Guenther, DC, Cincinnati Bengals
-45 years old, 4 years as a coordinator

Kris Richard, DC, Seattle Seahawks
-37 years old, 3 years as a coordinator

Offense
Jim Bob Cooter, OC, Detroit Lions
-33 years old, 3 years as a coordinator

Matt LeFleur, OC, Los Angeles Rams
-37 years old, 1 year as a coordinatoe

Todd Downing, OC, Oakland Raiders
-37 years old, 1 year as a coordinator

Darrell Bevell, OC, Seattle Seahawks
-47 years old, 12 years as a coordinator

Steve Sarkisian, OC, Atlanta Falcons
-43 years old, 1 year as an NFL coordinator, 7 years as a college head coach

Special Teams
Dave Toub, ST, Kansas City Chiefs
-55 years old, 17 years as a coordinator

Group 2: NFL Retreads
Josh McDaniels, OC, New England Patriots
-41 years old, 11-17 NFL coaching record

Tom Cable, OL, Seattle Seahawks
-52 years old, 17-27 NFL coaching record

Mike Smith, DC, Tampa Bay Bucs
-58 years old, 67-50 NFL coaching record

Scott Linehan, OC, Dallas Cowboys
-54 years old, 11-25 NFL coaching record

Jim Schwartz, DC, Philadelphia Eagles
-51 years old, 29-51 NFL coaching record

Todd Haley, OC, Pittsburgh Steelers
-50 years old, 19-27 NFL coaching record

Mike Munchak, OL, Pittsburgh Steelers
-57 years old, 22-26 NFL coaching record

Mike McCoy, OC, Denver Broncos
-45 years old, 27-37 NFL coaching record

Group 3: College Head Coaches
Jim Harbaugh, Michigan
-53 years old, 49-22-1 NFL record, 83-34 NCAA record

David Shaw, Stanford
-45 years old, 69-19, NCAA record, 9 year NFL assistant

Jim Mora Jr., UCLA
-55 years old, 32-34 NFL record, 44-27 NCAA record

James Franklin, Penn State
-45 years old, 55-30 NCAA record, 1 year NFL assistant

Feel free to offer up any other suggestions I may have missed. I didn't list Gruden, Cowher or Saban because I don't feel any of them are leaving their current roles.

Cooter or McDaniels.

But I really don't think Hue is going to be going anywhere.

It depends. If we win 0-2 games and still are getting blown out and aren't even being competitive? I find it hard to believe he's back

But I do agree that I think they will look for any reason at all to keep him. I just don't think to this point Hue has given that reason

You really have to take into consideration the fact that nobody is going to want this job. The talent pool is going to be limited.

Here’s the formula:

Step 1: Which other teams need coaches?

Step 2: Who are the top candidates?

Step 3: Those teams get the top guys with the exception of maybe a couple that stick around

Step 4: The Browns end up with someone nobody expected and make him pay for his flight both ways to and from the interview.

Find me a coach that can scheme around his players strength and is well versed in expected points and 4th Downs and I'll be ecstatic

Nice formula but Hue was probably the top candidate available last time smart guy and we saw how that worked out

So we are empirically better off with our step 4 candidates like Pettine

McDaniels I guess.

If only because I can say I played against a team coached by his dad.

Obviously a lot can change between now and the end of the season, but there might only be three job openings this winter.

What would you guys think about a hypothetical trade like this:

We send out:
Myles Garrett, the #1 overall pick, Jabrill Peppers, and probably the Texans pick,

We get:
Kyle Shanahan, Carlos Hyde, and Joe Staley

In this trade we set up long term stability at coach who we could also make the GM

We get rid of a Michigan guy and get back an OSU guy

And we get the heir to Joe Thomas' reign

Nobody that’s ever been a part of the Browns org is ever willingly coming back.

Just get me someone who isn’t completely retarded. After pettine and hue I just want someone who understands clockmanagment and that throwing deep on 3rd and 2 with a scrub QBs and scrub WR probably isn’t the smartest course of action.
