2019 Browns Off Season/Roster Discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I think Johnson's beef isn't his money, I think its the fact he wants to be out there all the time and he hasn't been out there all that much. He feels he should be and wants to be playing for a team who will play him all the time. At least that is what it feels like to me.

Now about Bakers comment, I didn't hear the whole thing, so I am not sure of his context about the comment.

I'm aware of what the issue is Coach.

I was simply saying that it was/is silly for current/former players and national media types to label this as a "contract" issue and come after Baker about messing with another player's money when it's clearly a playing time issue.

But at the end of the day, Duke got paid more than fair market value for his services and has three years left on his deal so he needs to just suck it up and play. He isn't in control of when the Browns decide to move on from him, they are.

National media likes to say and do what it feels like and they are trying to make a story out of a non-story like they always do. Anyone who knows the team actually knows Johnson wasnt happy with his playing time and no other reason. The dude feels he should be out there most snaps and right now with the current coaching staff, he feels like he won't be. He wants his playing time equal to his pay and that is all.

Eh, it kind of sounds like he’s being an overly sensitive little bitch in a business that isn’t for long anyway, so. I’m indifferent to what the FO does or doesn’t do with him at this point.

He should be happy to be well-paid and to, shortly anyway, be on what should be a winning team.

If he is really that type of guy who would rather be a RB1 (which he isn't that type of back anyway, don't know what he's thinking) on a bad team, than a RB2/WR3-4 and solid contributor on a winning team, then maybe the Browns don't need him.

Barring another suspension for Kareem Hunt, Duke is playing on a one year contract and is facing going into FA after being benched in the 2nd half for a guy who is the GMs favorite. Im not sure why people cant see his POV on this. The Browns are frankly being petty and self serving by refusing to deal him- and hopefully players dont forget when their contracts come up. Get your own, because Dorsey will most certainly get his own.

I think most see it plain as day... and they (I) still think it is a crappy POV. If he's playing on a one-year deal, wouldn't it behoove him to represent himself as a guy who's not going to be difficult to please while being a valuable piece to the team? To date, he's held his end of the bargain on the field and he's been a great pro off of the field until this charade of asking out after signing one year prior. This showing of being a malcontent is probably why nobody has invested a high pick for him yet.

How can you make the assertion that they’re “refusing” to trade him? I guess I don’t understand how this is petty; Freddie has stated he plans on developing means of involving Duke in the offense more.

I have more trust in Freddie than I did the previous coaches but I really don't see it. They're trying to make deep and intermediate passes and have guys to do that all day. It would be honestly kinda dumb to check down and run screens for Duke. They have Chubb to run the ball too.

Just think there are more efficient ways of moving the ball up field and Duke is naturally being phased out. Kareem Hunt is the nail in the coffin.

Duke sees it for what it is. Gotta let the dude do what he's born to do, because the Browns have clearly moved on.

Duke has multiple years left on his deal and is very well paid.

Unless he has a great year, he's probably getting cut after the season, with only 1.5 million in dead cap and 3 million in cap savings.

I think they're more likely to eventually trade him than cut him. Better to get back a mid-round pick than just cut him.
