2019 Browns Off Season/Roster Discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
OBJ was going to be traded to someone regardless and no one was willing to give up more than Browns did for him anyways otherwise OBJ wouldn't be a Brown. i still feel the deal would have gone through and it was 2 or 3 days in between the deals being officially announced by the media and then like a week later, they modified the trade and got rid of part of the Zeitler-Vernon swap part. It is hard to believe that amount of time between deals announced in the media and between changes being made to it, that it was originally ever one deal.
OBJ was only being traded if the Giants got a package they were willing to move him for. I believe improving the offensive line was one of the things they demanded in that package.

I'm not contesting that it was originally one deal. But, rather that Dorsey felt comfortable making the Vernon/Zeitler deal on its own even if the OBJ part never materialized.

I still can't find where the discussion was about the initial ask from Gettleman, but I remember Bitonio was part of it and we balked at that.

I was under the impression it was two separate trades.

It was two separate trades.

That got joined together after the second one, OBJ was completed.

So @Out of the Rafters at the Q got his shit completely wrong, not you.

The trade was Zietler for Vernon.

And yes, the deal is a massive failure if we leave a massive hole at RG. Protecting our franchise player should be top priority. A patch work offensive line would be a killer for this team.

Cleveland acquired wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. and defensive end Olivier Vernon in a trade that sent right guard Kevin Zeitler and safety Jabrill Peppers to the Giants. Cleveland also sent its 2019 first-round pick (17th overall) and the 2019 third-round selection (95th overall) they acquired in a 2018 trade with the New England Patriots.
The deal is pending based on the results of player physicals.

But eh, not a hill I'm willing to die on, or a constructive conversation at this point, especially when we put aside the semantics, the actual idea we're discussing is that trading Zeitler for Vernon is a bad value for us. I agree with this and stated as such when the trade was made. I think people underestimate how important the interior 3 offensive linemen were to our offense last year.

It’s more of a pronounced issue because Corbett is seemingly having issues and is fighting for a spot with a 6th rounder and Kyle Kalis. Maybe all the concerns are eradicated once the pads go on and Corbett just looks awesome against Sheldon Richardson in camp then dominates his preseason opponents then we forget we ever discussed this.

I’m in such a good mood today

With all due respect, if it's not Corbett, it's going to be Kush. I'd be absolutely floored if they started either Kalis or Forbes. Absolutely gobsmacked.

@Triplethreat as well since this supports your words

Like I said earlier it was two separate trades merged into one. First off the media announced on the 8th the Zeitler/Vernon trade.

Then on the 12th, the OBJ trade was announced!

Then on the 13th when trades could become official, they combined them and got rid of the swap pick that was originally part of the Zeitler trade!

It was two separate trades at first, then because the deals were made before they could become official, they combined the two trades into one trade! Read the articles and see for yourself good sir!
