2019 Browns Off Season/Roster Discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I wonder how many of Hue’s loads Mike swallowed while writing these stories.

Fully expecting strong denials from the Browns on both.

Amplifying the story gives it more credibility and extends its news cycle.

Honestly, these tweets aren't necessarily bad - they're just angled negatively...leave it to Silver.

Kitchens isn't happy with some of the work Monken is doing and apparently is trying to fix it. It's his offense. He's the HC - that to me is a sign of someone who knows what they want and how to get there - the anti-Hue.

Teammates felt comfortable enough to bring up an issue with their QB and they hashed it out like adults.

Alert the press!

The Baker drama I particularly take issue with, because he did nothing wrong. Everything he said was 100% factually correct. When Duke made the decision to take things public and go to the media, that made it fair game for ANYONE to speak on. I don't wanna hear shit about "don't talk about people's business" in this situation, it doesn't apply here.

Credit to Baker for being real about it and shame on those who want him to be a fake robot.

I find it a little weird that media members and ex NFL players who are criticizing Baker keep referring to this Duke Johnson thing as a "contract situation".

There is no contract situation. He's the 11th highest paid RB in all of football with three years left on his deal. He's certainly not underpaid for his production level. The case could certainly be made that he's overpaid.

So what's his beef? He found out he was being shopped and he's mad that things fell through? Guys get shopped all the time. Deal with it. This is a business.

Why are we dismissing the reports? Just because we don't like them?

Both coordinators are major concerns for me, and I wouldn't be surprised if things weren't perfect between Monken and Freddie. It's definitely awkward having your head coach be the real guy in charge of the offense and figuring out how you fit in.

I'm sure Freddie and Monken want things to go smoothly, with no drop off, but Monken isn't nearly the same level of OC as Kitchens.
Don’t be foolish.

Mike Silver has no sources within the Browns and this is purely out of animosity.

No, because the reporter has little credibility

Thanks for pointing out Silver's history.

I also didn't see the Baker tweet--I thought the conversation was a bit of an overreaction to the Monken "story"

I mean... we see a story trying to create turmoil. “Freddie Kitchens more involved in offensive room than Monken thought.”

I mean, Freddie told Todd upfront that he was calling the plays. Monken understood that and still signed on because he wanted to contribute. You think he’s going to call the plays but not be involved with the offense? Monken has made multiple comments about collaboration in the offensive room and expressing that he enjoys working with Freddie.

The story doesn’t even make sense. Complete swing and miss. Silver is just fishing in an unstocked pond.

The Baker stuff about veterans mad at him based on commenting on Duke’s contract situation....

Also an out and out lie. Duke was extended last offseason to his big payday.

This wasn’t about money. This was about Duke being a sensitive baby. Mayfield simply said that he hopes he does his job. That’s it. Nothing wrong with that; it’s true.

Wouldn’t be shocked if Baker was a little pissed that Duke requested a trade from a winner and strategically let the “self-inflicted” bit out so the media would make a frenzy.

Now, he goes to Duke, talks about the media making a controversy, they’re all good and—again—the team unites against the world. Baker loves this shit.

It’s all good.

Knowing how Baker works, they want these types of stories posted. They love external hatred. It galvanizes the group.

The Browns were getting too much love for my liking. I’m glad to get a lot of hate for Baker to file away.

I agree 100%. I liked the hire enough, but Kitchens was beyond amazing in 8 games and isn't giving up play making control. I know That means Monken is the OC in only name and he might just be fingering this out. Its early, but I am guessing there is a lot of truth to the story.

I don't. Players usually have each others backs on issues like contract or being shopped. Its a business but its still real people and tough.

While Duke should not have gone public at all, neither should Baker. I love Baker, but he is young and brash and needs to learn. Some vets stepped in and told him how true pro's handle these situations by backing off and not taking the media bait.

That said, he is the 11th highest paid RB someone said? Wow, that is huge, he does need to back off a bit, but I know at 25 he is just trying to get playing time so he can get one more decent contract. Duke honestly is in a very tough position.

Yep.

Different sport but Kevin Love has his name in every damn trade rumor out there and you don't see him acting out and calling the organization disloyal.
