2019 Browns Off Season/Roster Discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Interesting; it’s not like he didn’t get him paid. Maybe his agent suggested the approach he took as far as the trade was concerned and Duke didn’t care for the aftermath.

I feel like speculating, sorry.

he might just be fingering this out.

PFF begin 2019 with the Browns offensive line ranked #20 in the preseason after finishing 2018 at #2 in analytics production.

20. CLEVELAND BROWNS
PROJECTED STARTING LINEUP:
Left Tackle: Greg Robinson
Left Guard: Joel Bitonio
Center: JC Tretter
Right Guard: Austin Corbett
Right Tackle: Chris Hubbard
Cleveland’s interior offensive line was the major reason why the line was widely touted as one of the league’s best in 2018, but the front now looks much different after shipping Kevin Zeitler to New York in exchange for Odell Beckham and Olivier Vernon. Second-year guard Austin Corbett, who has logged just 14 NFL snaps, will step in alongside right tackle Chris Hubbard. The Browns’ offense is now lightyears better following an exciting offseason, but it will be intriguing to see how the offensive line fares given their losses.

This ranking is fair...

The Browns are starting a left tackle who has a decently large sample-size, but was only good recently. The team is starting a right guard who, at best, is a questionable talent. And finally, Hubbard was an average/below-average tackle last season.

So while the left guard and center are still very, very good, the rest of the line raises really important questions. It will be on the offensive playcalling and passing game to force pressure away from the line. Kitchens and Monken have a challenge on their hands.

Agreed. It’s our biggest weakness by far.

So Clint Boling retired today.

Might not be major news on the surface, but he was clearly the best Bengals offensive lineman. Their offensive line is somehow worse than it was last year. They have a ton of talent, but Andy Dalton might be dead by week 5.

LT out for the season with injury and now the LG retires.
Woof.

Hey, seems like Cowherd is out taking shots at the Browns again. All because Njoku said OBJ was a phenomenal fit. Colin said we’d start 3-5, maybe 4-4 and then get hot and then if we make the playoffs as a wildcard team we’d crash and burn. Said OBJ has maybe 4 years left.
Can’t wait to hear the reaction.
Not sure why I give this douche a chance every few weeks, back to Rich Eisen. A real sports guy.

Cowherd is an idiot, and his reasons for believing this are misinformed, but...

Most analytical models have the Browns ranging from 7-9 to 9-7. The reason why is having a rookie head coach, weak offensive line, second year QB, and lots of young players adds a high degree of uncertainty.

My own belief is that part of that uncertainty stems from the first half of last season, and generally, that the team will over-perform. Still, it is not ridiculous that many people have the Browns finishing around .500. The problem is if the Browns under-perform, rather than giving attention to real analysis, Cowherd will get the credit.

We're finishing 9-7. Just like the last 4 years

He says we might make the playoffs THEN crash and burn?

Playoffs are the goal for this team this year. So with his analogy we would have already landed the plane at our destination but yet someone we crash after landing?

I don't get his point? I agree, we probably wont win a playoff game. But one step at a time, lets let our rookie head coach learn, our 2nd year qb learn, and let Dorsey work on improving the offensive line this offseason and probably our linebacking and safety core.

Its not that I disagree Cowherd on what happens after making the playoffs, but calling the Browns crashing and burning AFTER making the playoffs is just dumb. We are not the Patriots or Saints where its Super Bowl victory or failure. Making playoffs is success.
