2019 Browns Off Season/Roster Discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
A little while ago we were discussing DBU in here...

ESPN released a Position U article today

Defensive Back U

With just a few glances at Twitter during the season, you'll see that Florida and LSU players -- current and former -- and their official football team accounts are constantly bombarding the internet with claims of "DBU."

It actually might be college football's best rivalry over the past few years.

Unfortunately for both schools, they have to take a back seat to the real DBU: Ohio State.

Since 1998, Ohio State has 26 all-conference seasons by defensive backs (tops in the country) and six All-American seasons, which ranks second behind that of Alabama and LSU (eight). Since the 1998 season, 30 Buckeyes defensive backs have been drafted, among them 12 first-round picks, including three -- Marshon Lattimore, Malik Hooker and Gareon Conley -- in 2017.

After the Buckeyes, it was a run of SEC teams, with LSU, Alabama and Florida taking spots two through four. -- Edward Aschoff

1. Ohio State
Notable players: Marshon Lattimore, Denzel Ward, Eli Apple, Malcolm Jenkins

2. LSU
Notable players: Patrick Peterson, Tyrann Mathieu, Jamal Adams

3. Alabama
Notable players: Minkah Fitzpatrick, Mark Barron, Ha Ha Clinton-Dix

4. Florida
Notable players: Vernon Hargreaves III, Joe Haden, Reggie Nelson

5. Florida State
Notable players: Jalen Ramsey, Derwin James, Myron Rolle

I think we had the exact same top three, in that order.

They had a QB U also. It was just for the last 20 years but I was hoping Purdue would get mentioned for QB with Kyle Orton, Curtis Painter, David Blough and of course Brees.

They had a top 5, purdue was not in it

Michigan St has had a lot of good success in the pros it feels like at the end of the day as well. I didn't see who was all on the list though for that one.

How much can Rosenhaus really influence this though? Media spinning? More asking in response to the “I don’t think Rosenhaus will allow..etc.”

That isn’t to be construed as disputatious but I’m just curious what approach he can take to try more or less forcing something. I can’t think of any reason why Dorsey can’t just take all the time he wants but I can see why it’s important for organizations and prominent agents to maintain good relations.

Disputatious!

Wonder if the Browns will kick the tires on Mike Daniels, who was just released by Green Bay and has ties to some of their front office personnel.

Would he even make our DL rotation? I'll admit I don't know anything about him, but it looks like he's never really been great, and last year he was absolutely awful.

Do you see him more as a DT? DE? Depth at both?

Probably more so as a depth guy at DT (there are people within the Packers org that viewed him as more of a third down inside threat at this point) although cost could be prohibitive, as I believe he was projected to have a cap hit somewhere around $10 million this year.

He was pretty good the year before last (even ended up making the Pro Bowl) but was hurt last year, and missed much of the season with a foot injury.

Still, if he came at a cheap cost, and was in shape, I wouldn’t mind taking a flyer. He was also operating under the assumption that he was going to be cleared for camp, as well.

Should we make an actual training camp thread for tidbits and stuff or is this suitable?

Mike Daniels would 100% make the rotation.

The depth behind Richardson/Ogunjobi is not exactly spectacular.

Daniels would immediately become the team's 5th or 6th best DL and you really want to play 7 or 8 to keep guys fresh. I am all in on adding him.

We also could really use a guy that generates interior pressure. Pair that on third downs with Myles, Avery, and Vernon - oh my.
