2019 Browns Rant Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
How can anyone not be disappointed in him? I still like the guy, and of course he's not being put in the greatest situation.

But he didn't take the off season serious enough to improve his game. I got a problem with that kind of mindset.

I'm not disappointed.

Expectations set by the media have set up the fanbase for disappointment. Baker had an exceptional 2nd half of the season last year. It would be foolish to think he was a lock to reproduce that this year.

Also, how do you know he didn't take the off-season seriously? Hell, it looks like everyone except Chubb were chugging beers all off-season. Kitchens was probably butt-chugging them as well.

PS - you can't compare a 2nd year (1st full) QB to Tom Brady. You can't compare anybody to him.

You won’t find that in anyone other than Brady, Manning, LeBron, and MJ...

That’s a special type of person who literally lives and breathes football.

Its Bakers second year. And the microscope everyone has placed him under just isn’t fair at all.

Meanwhile as I type this Phillip Rivers, one of the leagues best QBs for the last decade + has 0 points against the Steelers on SNF at home.

the expectations are so out of hand for the kid.

Asking a player to take the time to improve his craft isn’t a lot to ask from you.

You take that text completely out of context making the assumption saying I’m expecting him to be Tom Brady.

I’m saying one guy at 42, has nothing left to prove or do. Still takes time to put work in his craft when he has every excuse in the world to say fuck it. I’m the GOAT. I can do as I like and who could blame him at this point? But he still has the drive to be the best he can be.

And a second year QB that’s not proved anything comes in unprepared, clearly didn’t put in the work this off season to be better. Well, that is a problem.

How do you think he’s going to get better? He’s got to really want it. And take It seriously. Put in the work and work on things he struggles with and grow in what he does well.

It’s quite evident he’s regressed. And that’s a guy that didn’t put in enough work.

We all like Baker. We are on his side and want him to do well.

That doesn’t make him above constructive criticism. It’s ridiculous to think he doesn’t get any at this point.

I expect him to at least be as good as he was last year, which really is not asking for the moon. The people around him aren't doing him any favors- other than Nick Chubb- but Baker's performance thus far is not good enough. It just isn't.

Overall, yeah, I do have high expectations of him. I have those expectations because I think he's capable of being an outstanding player. In the long run he can learn and grow a lot from this experience, and I think he will. But right now, at this point in this season, he's been a disappointment, and there's really no way around that.

Not comparing him to Tom Brady as a player. But work ethic why not?

Does he want to be better? Does he want to win? Everyone should want that.

no, im almost 100% certain that the media had nothing to do with the expectations the fan base held for Baker and had everything to do with his on-field production and precision.. to go along with his rookie TD record stat as the cherry on top...

the baker we see this year looks nothing like that baker we had in the kitchen last year.

The lone conclusion I'm seeing to reach to explain any of this...is...
Freddy is a good OC. Creative, forms a good relationship with his QB, etc.

....I do not think he is a good HC. That could very well change. But I do not think he perhaps understood the concept of preparing this team correctly and instilling disciplined football.

And for those wondering....
Kansas City has a GOOD coach in Andy Reid.
Philadelphia has a GREAT coach in Doug Pederson
Houston has a Decent coach in Bill O'Brien
Pittsburgh (likely) has a HOF coach in Mike Tomlin
Seattle (the team we played today) has a NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP AND SUPER BOWL WINNING Coach in Pete Carroll.

Hindsight...(and I fucking hate having to think like this). Maybe Bruce Arians or Mike McCarthy with Freddie in tow as OC would have been the more ideal situation.

Generally speaking, you’re correct. We also have to acknowledge that Baker and the rest of the offense especially had a huge hand in creating those expectations.

Out of the few things Freddie has done well, he at least attempted to tamp down some of the expectations in the media. It was never going to work, but he did try.

He might not even be a good OC to be honest. Last year he was playing with house money and was largely still using Haley’s playbook, sans some input he received from the players. We also faced a very soft schedule in the second half of the year.

As long as the team doesn’t fall apart it should get better in the second half, but it’s likely again the result of a soft schedule and not necessarily a significant improvement in performance.

They're .500 team at this point...and that's with everything going right IMO. I see this team having at least 4 more game losing fuck ups in them.

With competent coaching? They're a 10-6 ballclub.

My honest take? We miss the playoffs and we wind up seeing some shithead NFL Films clips of Ratbirds players going "YEAH THEY FORGOT ABOUT US! THEY FORGOT ABOUT US!" before they get spanked by the Patriots or Chiefs in the divisional round.

That seems likely at this point.

But, I can also see Baker going balls out in the 2nd half after some sort of coaching change (or not) and starts clicking with OBJ and we win the division.

Pour one out for Dorsey on that Vernon trade.....

PFF has Kush rated as one of the 10 worst full time guards in the league, with an overall grade of 46.1. They have Zeitler just outside the top 10 at 68.2.

On the flip side, Vernon is the 71st ranked edge player in the league, which speaks to how bad he has been. He barely has a low level starter rank and that doesn’t even include the Seattle game, where he was equally as bad. He has a single sack, in 6 games, PLAYING OPPOSITE THE LEAGUE LEADER. How utterly useless is this guy to constantly get singled up and do nothing?

That trade was a complete disaster.

I like Baker. I'm still with him. But, I'm extremely frustrated and disappointed he didn't take the challenge serious enough to raise his game. I'm mad at him.

I'm mad because I know he has talent, and isn't taking it seriously enough.

I mean look at the QB in NE. Whether people like the guy, or not. He's won 6 rings. Is still playing 42, and still puts everything and then some to be the best he can, and win again. When he has nothing left to prove, but it still means that much to him.

I guess I wish Baker would take a page out of that book. Not settle for his clippings and media praise, and just sit on what happen last year. And actually take what he did last year, grow, and be better.

But he didn't take the off season serious enough to improve his game. I got a problem with that kind of mindset.
This is a whole lot of assumptions about a situation you have very limited information about.

because he shot commercials for Hulu and chugged a beer at the Indians game we are to believe he bought his own hype and didn’t work to improve? So often people take this weird stance of if guys are ever out doing ANYTHING but studying the playbook then they aren’t working to get better. It makes no sense at all, but it always comes up for QBs.

It’s shocking to me that this take got the amount of likes that it did because candidly its a bunch of guessing stated as facts

he isn’t taking it seriously enough? Spoken with such confidence.

Pretty sure I saw that Vernon was the top rated defensive player for the Seattle game.

Edit: Here’s the link.

I had my mind made kitchens wasn't there guy after Tennessee, but I don't understand how you can throw the challenge flag a second before running a play and it be successful, then come out and run that same play. Mind boggling.
