2019 Cleveland Browns Regular Season

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Gase is not a great offensive mind.

His offense has been the same for a long time. Short passing game with ball control. He nearly ended Kenny Stills career with his terrible offensive philosophies.

I'm not at all worried about Gase conceiving some brilliant scheme because it's not going to be anything worth while. He was massively overrated because he managed to hook up with a HOF QB
And as for the 2016 Dolphins?

I hope people don’t take this too lightly... Gase is a really great offensive mind and Gregg is going to play a lot of disguised blitzes. I won’t be comfortable until we win.

An overconfident team, who played completely undisciplined in week one, getting a wounded opponent on Monday night. What could go wrong? :chuckle:

The key is definitely Bell here.

Trevor Siemian can manage a game and not make a ton of mistakes, if they have a run game going.

Less than 35 Pass attempts (12 games):

Multi TD games: 5

100 or better QB rating: 4
90-99 QB rating: 4
80-89 or better QB rating: 1

9/12 games of 80 rating or better (75%)

More than 35 Pass attempts (13 games):

Multi TD games: 3

100 or better QB rating: 1
90-99 QB rating: 1
80-89 or better QB rating: 1

3/13 games of 80 rating or better (23%)

Browns have to stuff the run game and make him play from behind. He's a competent NFL QB if you stay ahead of down / distance and time / score. Once you get behind that curve, the wheels really come off for him.

I agree, except for the pressure being on Baker. Way too early for that.

Defense can't allow 40 points. That's where the pressure is IMO. Baker has just got to be Baker.

I'm not going to be overly critical of the defense last game. They gave up some big plays, but were absolutely gassed by the 4th quarter due to the offense going 3 and out constantly. It was 15-13 game late in the 3rd. Very likely a totally different game without so many 1st down penalties on offense that killed drives before they even started.

Higgins “suited” up for today’s practice but didn’t “do much” during the media-accessible portion of practice according to ESPN’s injury report.

Gase going 23-26 across his 3 years in Miami is pretty impressive considering the talent

Gase's offenses constantly over-perform their expected values. He is not a huge fan of slot receivers, but if you watched that Dolphins offense with Ryan "can't throw more than ten yards" Tannenhill and told me they would rank middle of the pack I would call you crazy.

He runs a lot of motion and bunch formations so the QB can read the MIKE and defensive scheme. The Patriots always struggle against Gase because he effectively offsets their biggest defensive strength.

I mean, that's fine, but his offense isn't a big play offense nor is it particularly effective from a scoring standpoint.

Darnold was terrible in week one, and Gase's QB's always are near or at the bottom of the league in air yards traveled. He might make Siemian look like a decent game manager, but the Browns have an offense that should easily out pace that team, especially without Lev Bell.

IF penalties are minimized, they should stroll to victory. the Dolphins had much better talent, especially on defense, than this Jets team currently possess with their amount of injuries.

No excuses. If they are going to play for a division title, the Browns should blow the doors off a weak and injured team like the Jets.

Yeah, I’m stunned that an offense whose best QB was Ryan Tannehill struggles with its aDOT. It’s almost like aDOT is a QB-driven stat or something...

What's the excuse with Darnold week 1 then?

What is adot?

What's the excuse with Darnold week 1 then?

Their best downfield threat was being shadowed by one of the NFL's best corners all game, so Darnold threw it underneath to Crowder, who is a great slot guy.

As a side note for fantasy owners of him, Robby Anderson has an absolutely brutal opposing CB schedule early this year. Keep that in mind when you see him underperform early.

What is adot?

Average depth of target. Or, put more simply, how far a QB's average throw travels through the air.

We didn't run a single jet sweep. Very little misdirection. No TE screens. We did a bad job of maximizing our talent.
It was not just no jet sweeps. We used almost no pre-snap motion. The lack of pre-snap motion means it is harder for Baker to read the field. Also, that Titans' defense is at its most dangerous when both safeties can play far back. Because the team kept playing with five receivers out and long, drawn-out passing plays, the coaches let the Titans play where they were strong.

Our players were poor, our coaching staff was far worse. Hopefully things get resolved before Monday.

I read somewhere that of all the NFL offenses in week one, the Dallas Cowboys had the most pre-snap motion. It isn't a coincidence that Dak Prescott had his best game in about two seasons. I couldn't agree more about purposeful pre-snap motion. Freddie did more with it last year. In the end, the Browns were so sloppy that they probably would have picked up two or three illegal motion penalties if they did.
