2019 Cleveland Indians Opening Day Roster

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I've never actually had a Hawaiian pizza, not because it sounds gross, but because I'd always prefer something else. The ham is a bigger detractor than the pineapple, quite a few meat toppings I'd choose over ham.

Ham isn't bad. I mean Hawaiian pizza is common, obviously there are fancy meats at the fancy places, but if ordering an ordinary pizza, ham is not a bad option. Peperoni is always best for common meats, but Sausage can be a risk, either home run or gives you the runs.

But when available, prosciutto crudo is my favorite topping. There is this incredible wood fire place in Scottsdale with incredible prosciutto. And there hot sopressata is pretty awesome too.

I didn't read this entire thread, and I don't have much of a pizza or hotdog take, but the lineup we are trotting out there is embarrassing. Without Lindor, do we have more than 2 capable hitters in the lineup? Are we going to waste the best rotation in the big leagues with these guys they're running out there?

Someone please give me reasons for hope.

Actually, I do have hot dog and pizza takes.

Ketchup is acceptable only if it is with mustard. Mustard has to be on a hot dog. Pickle spears and banana peppers complete a dog for me. If you put mayo on a hot dog, I won't say your disgusting.

Pineapple sucks on pizza. I think my dad orders it just to spite me.

What is your definition of "capable?"

I would suggest JRam, Santana, Martin, Bauers and Allen are all varying versions of capable.

I think people on here are highly underrating Barrios. Dude might be a Cy Young front runner this year.

My definition of capable is that when he steps to the plate, you're not surprised when he gets a hit. The other guys, you expect an out. I know the percentages are low for everyone to get a hit, but some guys you expect to do something positive. There were only 2 guys in the lineup yesterday that I expected to do something positive when they were at the plate.

Okay, then yes. There are more than 2 guys capable in the lineup.

Sweet. Who are they?

First, it’s important to note that the best players in the game aren’t “expected” to get hits.

The best players make outs 60% of the time, so that right there is why it’s tough for a generation of people who expect immediate positive results is tailing off from this game interest wise.

That said, the Indians likely have more than 2 players who will wind up above league average offensively.

Bauers, Santana, Ramirez, Kipnis, Martin, Hanley could and should all finish above that. How far above that remains to be seen, and I think we could add in Lindor and Greg Allen at a full time clip soon as well.

Have to be careful about Martin. He was fantastic in the time he played last year but it was a career year at the plate for him. He's played six full seasons in MLB and last year was the first time he had an OPS at or above .700 and/or an OPS+ at or above 100.

Absolutely fair.

Assuming Lindor will be OK, he's such a dynamic player that he instantly makes this team much, much better. I think CarGo can help...he's not a star anymore and he'll be worse not playing half of his games at Coors, but I think he can at least be solid. I think we'll be fine, too, with Kipnis returning or, if he cannot, Chang finally getting a chance. Most of all, I fully expect the Indians to add at least one impact bat before July 31st. Depending on how these players' teams perform, Anthony Rendon, Josh Donaldson (ha), Scooter Gennett, Yasiel Puig, Khris Davis, Nicholas Castellanos, Corey Dickerson, Jose Abreu, etc could all be on the market.

S-SS-Lindor
L-2B-Kipnis
S-3B-Ramirez
S-1B-Santana
L-RF-Gonzalez
R-DH-Ramirez
L-LF-Bauers
R-C-Perez
L-CF-Martin

Add an impact bat somewhere - maybe DH if Hanley doesn't work out, or corner OF if Bauers needs more seasoning or CarGo doesn't hit - and suddenly you have a lineup that looks much better than what we saw Thursday.

Add that to one of the best rotations in team history and I think there's plenty of reason to be optimistic.

Substitute Allen for either Bauers or Martin and I like it much better. Bat him 9th, get him on base ahead of Lindor and Ramirez, and we might actually be exciting.
