2019 College Football Season/Playoff Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I have a bet down with someone that no matter what happens SEC gets two teams into the playoffs.

I could definitely see this happening with LSU and Bama. But I could also see a situation where the SEC eats itself alive and none of the teams make it.

Auburn could lose to LSU and Georgia but beat Bama putting them at 9-3
Bama could beat LSU but lose to Auburn and then Florida in the SEC championship putting them at 11-2
LSU could beat Auburn but lose to Bama putting them at 11-1
Georgia could beat Auburn but lost to Florida putting them at 10-2
Florida could beat Georgia but lose to Missouri putting them at 10-2

The season could end with an undefeated Ohio State, undefeated Clemson and undefeated Oklahoma filling out the top 3 spots. The 4th spot would then come down to a Penn State team with 1 loss to OSU, a one loss Notre Dame, a one loss conference champ Oregon a two loss SEC champ in Florida and a one loss LSU who beat Florida in the regular season.

Chances of that are highly unlikely though.
Every year teams usually find someone to slip up against.
For osu it was purdue, iowa, penn state the last 3 years.
Oklahoma slipped up against texas, houston and iowa state the last 3 years.
Clemson it was syracuse and pittsburg the 2 years before last..

I personally guarantee that any undefeated P5 conference champion will make the playoff. The amount of backlash the committee would receive if an undefeated conference champion Oklahoma or Ohio State was left out would be unprecedented.

New AP Poll:
  1. Alabama
  2. LSU
  3. Ohio State
  4. Clemson
  5. Oklahoma
  6. Penn State
  7. Florida
  8. Notre Dame
  9. Auburn
  10. Georgia
  11. Oregon
  12. Utah
  13. Wisconsin
  14. Baylor
  15. Texas
  16. SMU
  17. Minnesota
  18. Cincinnati
  19. Michigan
  20. Iowa
  21. App State
  22. Boise State
  23. Iowa State

  25. Wake Forest

Big Ten is soo weak having the most conference teams ranked.

That Cincinnati win is looking real nice.
All the other teams in the top-5 played cupcakes out of conference.

I really don't think so.
Notre Dame was never behind UGA last year. Holcutt essentially said last year they aren’t going to leave out an undefeated power 5 team for a 1 loss team.

Only way a power 5 undefeated team is not in the playoff is either NCAA bowl ban or there are more than 4.

Bummer for Oregon dropping one early; they’re starting to pick up steam but at this point they’d need significant help — assuming they’d win the PAC.

Think Baylor has any shot at OU?

In Baylor helps. But I think like Ohio State and the big 10, there really isn't a team that should challenge OU.

Though hurts isn't nearly as good as Mayfield or Murray

Well you'd be wrong then.

Undefeated Ohio State gets in, that's a fucking given. Undefeated Oklahoma, a blue blood that's made multiple playoff trips already? Yeah, they're in. And Clemson, while playing in a joke conference, is the defending champion. No way they get iced out with an undefeated record.

One of those teams needs a loss for the SEC to sneak in 2 teams. I really hope it doesn't shake out that way but I could see it.

My ideal scenario: LSU takes the 1 seed, Bama or Oklahoma (the latter preferred) take the 4 seed. We take #2 with undefeated Clemson at #3. We exact revenge on Clemson by finally exposing them (not to say they suck, I don't really know I just want to beat them). Then we head to the championship to get revenge on LSU (tall order but PLEASE).

Oh and Fields sneaks in and steals the Heisman at the end.
