2019 College Football Season/Playoff Thread

Notable Games for the first full week of games. Few "marquee" matchups, but a ton of interesting ones.

Utah @ BYU - Utah is on the short list of Pac12 contenders, and BYU is always pesky.

Wisconsin @ South Florida - Does Wisky rebound this year?

Duke vs Bama - Will an upgrade at QB allow Duke to keep this competitive?

Northwestern @ Stanford - NEEEEEEEERDS!

Oregon @ Auburn - Is Auburn overrated like usual?

Houston @ Oklahoma - Dana Holgorson left WVU to go to Houston. A lot of people are just assuming Jalen Hurts becomes a Heisman hopeful and first round pick.

 
Dylan Moses from 'Bama tore his ACL. Out for the year.
 
Notre Dame looking very ordinary against Louisville who went 2-10 and 0-8 in conference last year.

An SEC team pulls out a win in the final minute against an overrated Oregon team that decided to fold up shop after halftime... Auburn should be moved from 16 to 4. That's as clear cut as it gets.

LSU destroys GA Southern... impressive showing by an SEC team so we should move them into the top 5.

Tennessee loses to GA State at home. Clearly GA State is a lot tougher than we originally assumed and Tennessee shouldn't be punished or belittled because of the outcome. Give them credit for having the insight to schedule such an underrated opponent to start their season!

Penn State destroys Idaho... it was cupcake competition so they should be punished by moving from 15 to 20.

Ohio State only beat Florida Atlantic by 24; clearly the Buckeyes are overrated and should be punished for scheduling (and under-performing against) such soft competition. Move them from 5 to 12.
 
Games of note week 2:

Syracuse @ Maryland - Syracuse might be the second best team in the ACC. If they lose this one, meaning the 2nd best ACC team would be the 5th best B1G East team, then Clemson should have to go undefeated to make the CFP. I mean, that's now it will work, but it's how it should work.

Nebraska @ Colorado - Nebraska was iffy last week. Renewal of an old Big 12 Big 8 rivalry.

Texas AM @ Clemson - Best team Clemson plays all year. Texas AM will go like 7-5, but it'll still be a quality win for Clemson.

UCF @ FAU - Not really a big game, but interesting to see how FAU does against another good team.

Nevada @ Oregon - Nevada was the only team to beat a B1G team last week (Thanks Purdue!). Oregon coming off a brutal loss.

LSU @ Texas - For the 10th time in the last decade, announcers can say "TEXAS IS BACK!"

WVU @ Missouri - Power 5 interconference matchup! That features...the team that lost to Wyoming and the team who almost lost to James Madison!

BYU @ Tennessee - How bad does Tennessee have to be to fire Pruitt? 4-8? Worse?
 
Okay so FAU is really bad.
 
Look at the disparity in scheduling though.
Clemson only had to play #12 TAMU (barely winning by 14)

Alabama has to play TAMU + #4 LSU, #8 Auburn, and (likely #3 Georgia)
Then Alabama still has to beat # 6 Ohio St. and #1 Clemson.
They have to beat half of the best teams in the country.

Ohio St has to play #18 MSU, #14 Wisconsin, #13 PSU, #10 Michigan, and likely (#19 Iowa or #14 Wisconsin again)

Must be nice for Clemson to cake walk into the playoffs.
At what point should we stop calling the ACC a power 5 conference?

Syracuse +27.5 against a Clemson team they've played tough in recent years is also something to keep an eye on.
