2019 College Football Season/Playoff Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Time for the week two edition of "If the CFP was stupid enough to give Stark a ballot". Same criteria as last week, and I'm also using my top-25 from last week as a template, not going to adjust based on what the CFP did. This is my opinion and I expect it to be a fair bit different than what is actually out there. I used total offense, defense, SOS, eye test, and a healthy dosage of B1G bias:
  1. LSU, 9-0
  2. Ohio State, 9-0
  3. Clemson, 10-0
  4. Oregon, 8-1
  5. Minnesota, 9-0
  6. Georgia, 8-1
  7. Alabama, 8-1
  8. Utah, 8-1
  9. Penn State, 8-1
  10. Baylor, 9-0
  11. Auburn, 7-2
  12. Oklahoma, 8-1
  13. Wisconsin, 7-2
  14. Michigan, 7-2
  15. Florida, 8-2
  16. Cincinnati, 8-1
  17. Navy, 7-1
  18. Notre Dame, 7-2
  19. Indiana, 7-2
  20. SMU, 9-1
  21. Appalachian State, 8-1
  22. Boise State, 8-1
  23. Iowa, 6-3
  24. Memphis, 8-1
  25. Oklahoma State, 6-3
Nothing too much to argue about feel like Baylor is too low. Big week for Baylor/Oklahoma though.
Baylor wins and they should be in top 4.
Oklahoma wins and very much back into the top 8.

Still no Texas A&M. Sigh.

Baylor wins and they should be in top 4.

I've got Baylor 10th for a few reasons:
- They've got the 45th best SOS, which is even worse than Clemson (43rd).
- They are 25th in total offense, Clemson is 2nd.
- They are 31st in total defense, Clemson 4th.

So two undefeated teams with absolute dogshit schedules so far, but Baylor has looked ordinary far too many times for me. Outside of that week on the road vs. UNC, Clemson has mostly taken care of business with their shitty schedule. Baylor has had close games with Rice (!!!), Iowa State, Texas Tech (OT), West Virginia, and TCU (OT) so far. They've barely scraped by a few times.

I'll definitely change my tune on them if they can take down Oklahoma and Texas, but I don't really see that happening.

Still no Texas A&M. Sigh.

- 14th SOS
- 53rd offense
- 29th defense

Honestly, if they weren't a 3 loss team, I'd probably have them in the top-25. Their three losses (Auburn, Clemson, Bama) are about three of the best losses you can have. But I hate the SEC, so they can go to hell.

What's Clemson look like as far as sos?

Not sure I see OSU getting back to 1 at this point, barring an LSU loss.

Gonna need Minnesota to be 12-0 and maybe even Georgia to lose to Auburn.

I'm more than fine playing Clemson, though a bye week against the Pac 12 Champ would be nice (assuming the committee wouldn't put Bama in just cuz).

Will be interesting to see how this shakes out, but I will be highly annoyed if OSU has to play a significantly better opponent in the semis than LSU.

If OSU rolls over Penn State, Michigan, and MInnesota (hopefully undefeated) in 3 straight weeks I think they'll be 1.

Of course ,if LSU does the same to A&M and Georgia....

But I'm gonna call it now. I think Georgia beats LSU in the title game by just stuffing it down their throats and controlling the clock. And I think that'll make it 1. OSU 2. Clemson 3. Georgia 4. LSU for the playoffs.

And I told you guys Georgia would hop Alabama. They've got the better wins. Two over top 25 teams according to the committee compared to Alabama's zero.

And unless something weird happens in the Pac-12, I don't see how Bama gets in now. Outside of Auburn beating Georgia and then Bama smoking Auburn to give them one really good win.

Because whichever team wins the Utah-Oregon title game will almost assuredly hop over them.

Particularly if its Utah so the committee doesn't have to justify the whole Auburn>Oregon>Alabama issue that would occur.

Clemson is 43rd in SOS as of right now.

Their only hiccup in my book was the 21-20 win over North Carolina that I definitely think they should've lost. The rest of their schedule is trash, but at least they've mostly been blowing out the trash.

Their toughest game all year before the playoffs is probably this week against Wake Forest, and WF gave up 62 to Louisville and just got their asses kicked at Virginia Tech.

Clemson is probably your only 100% clinched playoff spot right now. Everybody else in the top-10 could easily lose another game this year, but Clemson has Wake and South Carolina left on their schedules, and that is a tough stretch for them. Absolute cupcakes all year long for them.

Sorry I went back and read the original post and see 43.

So obviously the committee likes OU more than Baylor, but ultimately I do think an undefeated team should get a bit more respect. Especially if you give Clemson a ton of respect.

If Clemson loses they should fall out of the top 10 based on how the rest of the rankings have gone

SEC: Top 0 loss team, Top 1 loss team, Top 2 loss team. Pathetic. Alabama better not make the damn playoff at least.

I think by this point in the season (mid-Nov), if you are an undefeated P5 school, you probably should be in the top-10 at least. I still don't think that Baylor is very good and that they've gotten pretty lucky this year, but they're one of a handful of teams with a zero in the loss column.

If Clemson loses to Wake, I'd throw them below LSU, OSU, Bama, Penn State, Minnesota, Utah, Oregon, Georgia, Penn State, Baylor, and Oklahoma before you could even blink.

When your SOS is as bad as Clemson's and you want to be in the playoff discussion, you simply have to go undefeated, end of discussion. A loss for Minnesota, Baylor, or Clemson should instantly pretty much eliminate them in my eyes. Ohio State and LSU are a bit different because their schedules aren't going to suck at the end of the year. I still don't think Ohio State can lose and get in at this point, but LSU probably can afford a close loss.

SEC: Top 0 loss team, Top 1 loss team, Top 2 loss team. Pathetic. Alabama better not make the damn playoff at least.

Be honest, which of these do you have a problem with?

I don't personally think they have the top 2 loss team. I honestly think MIchigan is probably the best 2 loss team out there. They're a different team than they were to start the season and it stareted in the 2nd half against Penn State.

But Alabama and Georgia would beat the brakes off of Utah and Oregon. Oklahoma's defense has been getting shredded the last two weeks by fairly bad/mediocre teams.

EDIT: I get the frustration at Georgia because OSU was left out last year after their bad loss. But the other thing that happened was that all of OSUs good wins started looking like poo, too. Michigan State ended up being very mediocre. TCU ended up winning like 6 games. And Penn State had a down year.

At this point, Florida still looks pretty good and Notre Dame, while overrated, wont really have a chance to implode the rest of the way.

I honestly think Bama might be screwed this year as long as things don't get too chaotic.
- LSU wins out in the regular season (should happen) and beats Georgia in the SEC Champ game, they're in
- Ohio State wins out in the regular season (please happen) and beats undefeated or one loss Minnesota in the B1G Champ game, they're in
- Clemson wins out (should happen) and beats whatever trash ass team in the ACC Champ game, they're in

If those things happen, we can eliminate 2-loss Georgia, 2-loss Penn State, and 1/2-loss Minnesota. I think the Big 12 is mostly screwed unless Baylor somehow beats Oklahoma, Texas, and wins the conf. championship (just not happening).

That leaves the PAC-12 (Utah/Oregon) and Alabama. If Utah and Oregon win out and face each other in the P12 champ game, I'm putting the winner of that game in over Alabama.

Would leave us with something like:
1. LSU
2. Ohio State
3. Clemson
4. Utah/Oregon

I think Georgia can still make a push if they win out and beat LSU in the SEC championship. If LSU and Georgia win out, face off in the SEC champ game, and it's close, then the PAC-12 champ probably gets told to take a hike and we get:

1. Ohio State
2. Clemson
3. Georgia
4. LSU

I don't really see a path for Bama anymore barring chaos.

Oklahoma's defense has guys dropping like flies.

It's not an excuse just an explanation

Biggest complaint is how far down Baylor is.

Why are they behind multiple 1 and 2 loss teams when they've got the better wins, too?

Utah has zero wins against the committees top 25. Baylor has 2.

Oregon has zero wins against the committees top 25.

Alabama has zero wins against the committees top 25.

Soooo that's a pretty big slap in the face to Baylor.

If they beat Oklahoma next week they should hop into the top 4 no questions asked.
