2019 College Football Season/Playoff Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Yeah, unless Utah roars back and wins convincingly, the door is going to be very, very open for the Big 12 champion.

I think Utah needed to have an equal or better win than the Big 12 champ, so things look bleak as hell for them. Probably gonna lose and end that convo anyway. Then it’s down to whether Georgia wins and makes it a controversial playoff.

If Baylor somehow pulls hat shit off tomorrow how badly do they get stomped in round 1?

Utah making it interesting. Still think they're out barring some real weird shit in the Big 12 title game

Lane Kiffin and Ole Miss...a match made in heaven :chuckle:

In general, I hate the concept of conference championship losers getting a pass into the playoffs. This year, people are arguing that as many as three teams can/should get into the playoff regardless of this weekend's results. This is massive bullshit to me and this year it's especially dumb.

Here are the top 8 teams. All of them are playing in conference title games this weekend. Only one has 2 losses and we've never seen a G5 team nor a 2-loss team make the playoffs before, so these are easily the only teams with a shot.

1) Ohio State
2) LSU
3) Clemson
4) Georgia
5) Utah
6) Oklahoma
7) Baylor
8) Wisconsin

This is a gift to the committee and they will probably fuck it up (IMO) by not treating these conference title games as de facto play-ins. Nobody should be able to LOSE a conference title game, a postseason game, and continue their playoff journey. If Georgia beats LSU, BOOM, we saw that playoff game, LSU should be out. Why would we put them back into the mix when they JUST LOST TO A PLAYOFF TEAM? Ohio State gets upset by Wisconsin? A little less fair to leave them out but maybe don't lose to Wisconsin when it matters. Clemson should absolutely be out if they can't even beat a fake-ranked Virginia.

Baylor likely needs some chaos this weekend to get in even with a win and that's bogus. They're only loss could be avenged this weekend and they could STILL be sitting out because LSU lost to Georgia to slide to a free 4th place? Winning this weekend shouldn't guarantee a slot, but losing should mean you're done. Give other teams a chance, you blew it.

the problem with your scenario is that you’re advocating putting a 2 loss Wisconsin team in the playoff over a 1 loss Ohio State team that already would have beaten the team that they had their only loss to.

In this scenario Wisconsin won the game that mattered. Regardless, becomes much easier in an 8 team playoff with auto-bids.

And that is the big problem with the "auto-bids". You say WI won the game that mattered. That implies the earlier game doesn't matter. Not a good look.

This yr the B1G West Division produced a team with 2 losses. What if it produced a team with 3 losses going into the championship game and it won the B1G championship game in a fluke??

No setup is perfect but this one is better than the BCS years and that was better than the non-BCS/ Playoff years.

Is it clear that the 4 teams in are OSU, LSU, Clemson and either UGA (if they win) or the Oklahoma/Baylor winner(if LSU wins)?

These teams are so far behind the top 3 its crazy.

Yep

Clemson really has nothing to fall back on if they lose. No quality wins. Terrible conference. Near miss against UNC. Would be really interesting to see how things shake out if they get upset by a fringe top 25 Virginia team. They may be safe provided Georgia loses because there would be no other one loss Power 5 school besides the Big 12 champ.

Long story short, OSU and LSU are in. Clemson and Georgia are in with wins. Big 12 champ is in with a Georgia loss. A Clemson loss is the only thing that creates chaos.

Clemson has to be out if they lose to Virginia. Has to be. The whole system and strength of scheduling is a complete joke if they can play scrubs all year, lose to another above average team in their conf. championship, and still get in.

Don't agree! The previous games got you into this postseason game. And, hypothetically, an 8 team playoff means you are still have a shot based on your earlier wins, but you aren't getting that championship slot. So it just gives more importance to the conference championship games, which I think is a good thing.

A lot of people make this argument but I don't think it's a bad thing. Chaos is fun! And if a team flukes their way into the playoff they'll either be dispatched as the fluke they are or they prove their worthiness by playing the games.

No setup is perfect but this one is better than the BCS years and that was better than the non-BCS/ Playoff years.

Agreed! I'm stating a system that I prefer. It would also be better to have a system not reliant on a human committee.

I cant believe Baylor has a chance to win. They’ve been completely outplayed.

Baylor doesn’t have 200 yards of offense does it lol

I would love if OSU could snag Baylor in the first round.
