He's certainly a very willing iso scorer...I've yet to see any evidence that he's a good iso scorer, let alone the best in the draft. And my take is that iso scorers are generally pretty worthless unless they're absolutely ridiculous shooters and/or finishers, which KPJ certainly is not.

LOL "very willing" ISO scorer...hilarious...I could be a "very willing" ISO scorer in the NBA, at least if I was capable of scoring at all.

He played in the Ohio Valley Conference, same as Morant but a low/medium competition level of teams. You can look at that different ways but I think it really depends on what skill you are looking at. For example, I'd be much more concerned about his getting to the hoop ability v lesser competition than I would a skill like distance shooting. Steph Curry for example played at Davidson and he has had no problem continuing his great distance shooting in the NBA. Also; Windler was guarded well in college because every opposing team knew what a threat he was from deep and often would hit 3s with a hand in his face. The last thing I would worry about is his shooting from distance but he needs, like any shooter, decent amount of playing time and shot opportunities.

Altman said after they drafted him that he does a lot of things well and they were focusing on players that can dribble, drive, pass, and shoot and Windler fits that. I'm more intrigued by his passing in the NBA than what he showed in college with real threats around him and hopefully more spacing.

I doubt he will average 10 rebounds per game but I do think he will be a good rebounder in the NBA. Kevin Love is one of the best rebounders I've watched - isn't going to outmuscle people but just has a knack for knowing how to get in position and where the ball is coming from and I see a bit of that in Windler. He is also very active when it comes to rebounding and has the mentality where he wants to get the ball.

My only negative on him is I think he could use more weight on him and will have issues with bigger players because of this. I think the whole defense thing is up in the air, not just on him but for all of the Cavs players until we see what Bickerstaff and the other coaches do with it. But I'm also one that is more a believer in team defense than individual freak one of one type that makes a true difference in the game. I think players like that are rare (Gobert). I also think it is a waste of time to judge young NBA players on defense. They have so much to learn in the pro game early on in their careers and you also have guys that are one and done types where their bodies aren't even mature yet.

Yes it sounds pretty good. He is a senior and grew a lot in college. His shot seems basically unguardable. You have to hope he misses. His ability to shoot while on the move looks NBA quality to me, and he is often way behind the college line.

As far as I can tell, it looks to me like they looked at his combine numbers and coupled with his numbers said, "this looks legit". Hard to see a guy with his IQ and shooting ability at his size flaming out.

Also, he is sort of the prototype late bloomer. He was big into another sport before he realized he should focus on bball. Then as he focused on it, he just got better and better.

I am really excited for this pick. The things he does seem to translate well, and he doesn't have a clear weakness other than "too weak" even though his combine says he is pretty strong and at least adequately athletic, which also shows up in his finishing and cutting.

He was definitely the 30th pick for a reason. I know that I keep on saying it, but frankly, it is just true.

Met a time traveler last night at the bar.

You'll all be happy to know that in at least one timeline that may or may not happen, Windler was our stud from the draft that people wondered how he fell to 26. Like at that point in the future, he had been in 6 all star games. So. I'm just reporting what I was told.

Did we win anymore titles?

Great first showing. I was fearing Keldon might thoroughly outplay him tonight... but not even close.

Windler and Lonnie were by far the best players on the floor tonight. He'll need to clean up his dribble and add some strength, but that was expected.

His release is quicker than mine on December 1st :chuckle:

He's 22. And for a lot of people, that makes him a non-starter as a lottery consideration. Especially that he's also "unathletic" (cough, cough).

I feel pretty confident that he's going to outperform a significant number of the "higher ceiling" guys taken ahead of him.

If he adds strength and tightens his handle, he could be very good. Great bbiq apparently. That goes a long way. He has that baby giraffe gangly thing going on. If he can beef up a little, he is gonna be good. Great pick imo. Worst case scenario is a fantastic shooter who gets pushed around a bit.

I think he is the perfect storm of bring overlooked. Great scouting Koby

This was about KPJ... but I agree with you on either guy. Windler and KPJ, IMO, outperform there draft position. But there still is a good reason each were drafted where they were.

Biggest issue right now is his relative lack of strength, which was noticeable from right when he was drafted. But that is fixable with an NBA strength training program.

People may be kidding themselves on him playing small ball 4, but dude might be a be to play sg. That might be an interesting wrench to throw in the 2 small guards defense.

Cedi needs to step up, but Cedi and Dylan together could also be cool. Windler will work in many lineups as a swingman if not small ball 4

For sure. Some quality PEDs and training put a lot of muscle on Cedi pretty quickly.

That 35’ bomb looked weirdly reminiscent of Curry with that odd follow through

Great first game by Windler. Loved how he moves off the ball. He is one of those guys who knows how to play basketball. Knows when to cut, knows when to find space, he is there at the right spots. His range and quick release is priceless. I think people are already loving him and more will love him because not the fact that he shoots well, he hustles, finds ways to make the team win. I see he needs to develop some strength but the ceiling is high for him. Love his game.

For those who did not get to watch here are his highlights:
