2019 Draft, Pick #30 - Kevin Porter Jr., USC

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Can't say much that hasn't already been said about Porter. Looks good to me too. Got some skills to refine but talent seems there. I'm happy to have him on the team.
Coaching needs to maximize his and Garlands potential (along with every other player also).

Thetr was a point during the Wine and gold scrimmage where he guarded Garland full court . It was jokingly as no one was playing d, but he stayed in front of him.

I love this kid wants to play defense. I think he could be awesome guardong smaller guards. Guardong is guarding someone so well you have metaphorically dickslapped them

Looks like he is coasting and still going past guys. I don't even think he turned on the jets yet.

He likes to play a very physical offensive style which is so hard to deal with given his skillset. He really is going to be able to scare teams, put guys on their heels, and use his stepback. Anytime someone bites on the stepback he's going to explode to the rim.

I think as long as he is able to shoot 33%+ on his stepback 3, he's got a chance to be unstoppable.

Was watching him during the scrimmage shooting 3's. He made about 1 out of 8. That is not going to scare too many people.

I remember Mike Zavagno pointed it out when we drafted him, but he’s got truly elite space creation potential on his jumper. Let’s hope Beilein cleans up his release.

Legit reminds me of a modern Cuttino Mobley

A lot of guys would be superstars if they could shoot better than 33% on stepback 3's. How many can actually do it? Serious question.

Did you watch the game? I'm curious what your thoughts are if you saw him.

I didn't watch the game so I probably can't add much to the discussion. It'll take a lot to convince me that KPJ stepback jumpers are ever going to be efficient offense, though. I'm much, much more interested to see what Sexton and Garland can do as offensive creators, so it's slightly concerning to me that KPJ (and Clarkson, and TT, and Cedi) took more shots than Sexton or Garland. Hope that's not a trend this season.

KPJ didnt take a single step back jumper last game.. he only shot layups, dunks and a couple corner 3's

Not criticizing his shot selection in this case...the discussion above was about his ability to shoot step-back jumpers, so I made a post above commenting on that. What I'm criticizing about their preseason game performance is that, at the end of the day, Sexton and Garland accounted for just 11 of 89 shot attempts, and just 2 of 27 assists. I hope that when real games start, guys like KPJ, Clarkson, Cedi, TT, and Nance are willing to defer to those two when it comes to creating offense.
