2019 Draft, Pick #30 - Kevin Porter Jr., USC

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
So basically, the Pistons took on a bad contract in exchange for a boat load of 2nd round picks. In the end, the cash from the Cavs helps to lessen the burden of the bad contract.

Seems like it. 2 Blazer 2nd rounders, 1 Jazz 2nd rounder, 1 Heat 2nd rounder that will never convey and 5 Million. They then went to trade 3 future 2nd rounders for some random Euro 8 picks later. Who knows what their doing. Must have wanted the cash.

Snell's contract isn't really bad. He is a solid defender and is a career 38% 3 point shooter and has shot basically 40% from 3 the last 3 season.

I think Detroit wanted another wing and the Bucks offered up the pick to move off the little extra money and extra year of Snell vs Leuer. Snell is a more useful player than Jon Leuer.

I think the Pistons also thought their guy(s) would be there at 30 and once they were gone they decided to just move the pick. It kind of the reason why not to trade for a pick before the draft especially when it's this low. Same goes for the Bucks, they could have probably moved off Snell for #30 for JR's contract and saved more cap space.

Steal of the Draft would have been fine with the gamble at 5 or 13.
High bust potential if taken that high though so even better they got him with an even bigger motivational incentive falling to 30.
This kid is going to get so good and may be even better than Garland long term

Any one think he could end up starting at shooting guard down the road?

I think the goal is Garland - Porter in the backcourt and Sexton as the sixthman. When we play small ball Porter is long enough to kick to SF for stretches and we can run Garland - Sexton - Porter until one of Garland/Sexton are gone. This guy is clearly a Beilein pick talent wise. Reminds me of a more talented and more athletic Jordan Poole who oddly went before Porter. Porter can create for himself, can create for others a little bit he needs to develop this part of his game like with the majority of the backcourt players we have. But hes a very talented individual top 5 to 10 talent just gotta hope he stays the course and doesn't do anything stupid off the court.

They were talking about that on Golic and Wingo this morning. The NBA draft has become a farce, with not being able to announce trades during the draft. In some cases, picks had even been moved twice, as was the case with the Bucks picking Porter.

I wish the NBA could model after the NFL draft and announce trades prior to picks being made. It definitely adds a layer of excitement.

Not to mention the joke of draftees putting on the hat of a team they know they wont even be playing for.

I dont think there is a definite plan yet. Let them play and let it shake out

Watching some highlights, and man are there a lot of plays where he absorbs contact and keeps going. This is sometimes to the basket, finishing with contact, or sometimes on a drive with contact, shedding it and hitting a midranger. Looks to use picks reasonably well, too. Just seems a good combo of physicality and skill. Liking a lot of what I see. If he can keep his head together, he might have a shot at an all-rookie team. Seems like he's already got an NBA body, so maybe the focus can be on other things.

I think he is going to Chuck a lot from mid range. Hope he keeps going to the basket and his 3 is good. If he learns the lesson Sexton did last year, he might be really good.

I get that he shot well in college... but given his shooting mechanics and free throw percentage, should we be worried that his range is fool's gold?

Otherwise, kid seems like a great prospect. Athletic, good scorer, potential to be a good defender, decent passing, etc. It's just about turning that potential into actual production.

He shot in the 30s from deep in High school. Terrible at the line. As for the mechanics let him leave it. Look at Shawn Marion amd a few others. Some times it just looks ugly but even if its bad mechanics or ugly if you get the result you want why fix it?

Work on his FT shooting but for his shooting sometimes trying to fix it backfires. Ask Markelle Fultz.
