2019 Draft, Pick #30 - Kevin Porter Jr., USC

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
If comping former Cavs, JR Smith feels like his near ceiling to me, unless he makes that jumper less streaky. Maybe a floor of Ricky Buckets (who Collin Sexton is currently tracking as).
He reminds me of a young James Harden who plays defense. Jr never had that first step and driving ability nor could he hang in the air to draw contact.

What game do you recall of rookie Kyrie or TT that was better than yesterday?
LeBron was a rookie before Gibson
You're right. For some reason I thought Kyrie dropped a few 40 points games but that was later years. I'm surprised Kyrie didn't do better than this.

Didn't Kyrie and TT play in that shortened season as rookies? But he had some good performances. I'm sure at least one was on par with KPJ last night. But 8 years ago is a long time to forget.

He scored 32 once and 29 twice and 28 once but all were losses. His best game was 26 pts 6 ast on 64% fg% in a win by 11 over PHO. He had 6 TO's but was +13

Yes it was the short season 66 games. He played 51 of them. Between the two I would have to give a slight edge to KPJ for best single rookie season game. He looked like a 2way player and for me the +22 backups the eye test. It's just one night but everything in that record 4th Q and OT was next level.

Boobie scored 31pts on 9 shots in an ECF game 6.. I didn't watch LeBron's rookie season but there is a chance I would assume that he didn't have a game better than that, well, not in such a big moment at least.

Not an ECF but LeBron had 41 pts 13 ast 3 stl game his rookie year

Gotta be careful with comparing stats even from 2011 to 2020 because the game is being played so dramatically different now than it was then.

In Kyrie and Tristan’s rookie year the league average was a little over 92 possessions per game and about 19 3PT attempts per game.

Now in 2020? The average is about 100.5 possessions per game and 34 3PT attempts per game.

There’s just such a bigger emphasis on pace and 3PT shooting now.

Despite being an unbelievable rookie shooter who was the clear focal point and No. 1 option for his team offensively, Kyrie didn’t have a single game as a rookie where he attempted more than 7 threes.

Kevin Porter Jr., who doesn’t even start and has a fraction of the offensive burden Kyrie has, already has two games with 9 3PT attempts and another game with 8 3PT attempts.

Not trying to take the piss out of Porter’s recent performances either, because he’s been legitimately very good offensively for about a month now. It’s just a different game right now than it was just 9 years ago.

Very true. Just add that many established star players from the older era's didn't exactly have increased scoring in the new era. I feel we are much more likely to have more players in double figure scoring today then in the past. LeBron is one example. His scoring didn't spike but certainly seen an increase in ast.

I guess what I'm saying is extra possessions doesn't necessarily mean skewed stats between era's because it's the defense that dictates how many shots an individual player gets per minute even if the game has more possessions.

If you try to score more often per minute defenses will just adjust that much quicker. Unless you have some nearly unstoppable shot your not likely to benefit from the extra possessions in today's game.

Very impressed with KPJ. The fact he was able to take initiative and wanting the ball to make the play shows he can be the man and he delivered. And this is his rookie season. Loved the guy in college because he has the tools. I think he will be a star.

"Porter bounced back emphatically, delivering the kind of performance that has some within the team believing that he might be the one. The one to become the team’s best player at some point. The one to alter the franchise’s trajectory.

“There’s no might,” a player told cleveland.com before leaving the locker room." - Chris Fedor, after the win over Miami

Despite the way season has gone i still like the. Sexton garland nance Porter cedi hopefully windler core. Tt probably goes in a sign and trade or we resign which i am great with as well
Drummond will have a massive cap clearing salary going into a much better free agent year
In 2021. We will deal him for good assets
Love is love. And we have a top 8 or so puck this year

Does he make second team All Rookie? I figure there’s about 6 locks (Ja, Zion, Clarke, Nunn, Herro, MPJ) with another 5-7 guys competing for the rest. Hachimura, PJ Washington, KPJ, Hunter, Culver, and maybe Coby White feel like the other guys. I think KPJ should make it over most of those guys
Coby White starting to figure things out last 3 games 35/7/3 (thunder) 33/6/2(Wizards) 33/3/2 (Suns)
