2019 Draft, Pick #30 - Kevin Porter Jr., USC

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Y Town is a post industrial city. Was the site of an economic disaster in 1982, when big steel collapsed and houses were auctioned off by the block.. it has recovered a good bit. I am sure there are decent neighborhoods to live in if suburbs are good for you, but I am not sure you could find a good urban lifestyle...I went to school with a lot of guys from that part of Ohio.. They were all brilliant, and all first college generations. I can't remember a single one that was negative about Youngstown.. So that is something..

FWIW Youngstown is a great place to get pierogies or a slice of pizza.

Always make sure I'm packing before I get a good pierogi. On a serious note this will probably be a minor offense that results in no missed games. If anything he may miss 2-4 games because of the leagues new protocols.

IDK. I think the Cavs won't like this at all. Shades of delonte... I think they will have a come to Jesus moment, and if they detect a problem , trade him out..

I don't think so. he was only pulled over because apparently there was a crash and when they searched his car they found the gun and it was loaded. He ight not know the laws regarding guns in Ohio which to be fair to him, not being from here hay legit may not have known. he wasn't doing anything malicious so I don't know if the team will see it as as bad as most fans probably will.

Loaded gun in the car.. bad choices..

When you say there was a crash? Was he stopped because he was driving by a crash? Why did they search his car?

It's not the story the Cavs want.. He can turn it into a maturity moment, but he will need to sing from the hymnal to stay, IMO.. I don't think this org will tolerate much.. they like Love because he is thier image, Sexton with the work ethic.. Tristan when he isn't in Kardashian mode..

I am trying to remember who was the last guy on the team with negative character..

I just want to point out that Delonte West was speeding on a three wheeler, driving recklessly and he was carrying multiple guns on his body. One of which was a shotgun in a guitar case he was carrying on his back. Totally different situations.

While he was here, the Pipe, was relatively well behaved.. Actually Tristan has been more of a bad boy, letting Draymond have it.. But my point is this organization values a particular image that is not driving around Y Town with a loaded gun in you car..

I agree, which is why I think they give him a chance to turn it.. But it is a major FU, not a wrist slapper...

Not too mention in DC where guns are illegal.

I also don't think they would trade him away because of his potential. I think they really like KPJ but this will put into question if he can be relied upon to be a solid building block for the future. It may change how they look at the draft.

This draft has some tall PGs but the combination of having both KPJ and Garland on the roster, it provide for some overlapping skill sets. Now though if you add in questionable fit between Sexton/Garland and KPJ having off the court issues, it seems less likely that all 3 will pan out. I could see the front office justifying taking one of these tall guards and just hoping that 3 out of 4 will pan out.

I don't see them changing draft plan based on this incident.. longer term will be about how they handle porter..

Agreed. The kid made a mistake, but, I can guarantee you, with all that’s been going on in our country, KPJ isn’t the only NBA player driving around with a gun in their car.
