2019 Draft, Pick #30 - Kevin Porter Jr., USC

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Drummond had a lot of nice things to say about him during his interview after the game. Said everyone got hyped up when he came into practice and they were happy to see him.

I like seeing Sexton with him. Sexton is exactly the friend he needs, steady and determined. They also played fantastic together the end of last year. Had a couple of really good games.

Drummond was saying tonight. You can't help but play hard with these guys. We are seeing chemistry and belief. I think these are good group and KPJ is better off with them than without them.

Glad to see he’s back on the bench. The above video (albeit from a summer incident) shows the young man still has some growing up to do. And that’s ok! He’s young and from everything I’ve read he had a pretty tough upbringing.

I’m confident in our organization to keep him on the right path and help him realize his potential on the court and in life.

I wouldn't assume he is making any progress from what I have heard, its just the cavs trying to take a different approach and dangle a carrot. There were 3 separate events this summer in a very short period, he has a ton of growing to do and is being very hard headed about making process. Hopefully a light turns on for him, but insiders are losing confidence in that. I respect the Cavs for doing the right thing and looking our for the person more than the athlete side of him.

And lots of people have a rough upbringing, Lebron had a mom who was addicted to crack and never knew his dad, just being perspective, the picture isn't good right now, but lets hope he starts to come around. He is an angry young man who knows more than everyone right now that wont listen to those that want to help him and he is his own worst enemy.

Institutional culture says you keep the troubled guy out of the mix and away from those who might perform well otherwise but could slip with the wrong influence. The problem with this: Some of those same people can likely help the troubled person get their shit straightened out.

I think the Cavs wanted to see what they had to begin the season in terms of team culture, in addition to giving KPJ a time out. If that culture is strong--and it seems to be--then bringing KPJ into the fold isn't going to harm it. In fact, it's strong enough that he'll benefit from it. That's where things seem to be headed now.

He still has to be the one to decide if this past summer/fall was his rock bottom or not.

I hear there is allot to the story and he isn't close to returning to playing with the Cavs, its more than team culture and I don't want to guess because those in the know are being purposefully vague. I am hopeful because that is my nature, but KPJ never putting on a Cavs jersey again is a very real possible outcome of the current situation.

Undoubtedly. The support of the team isn't going to save him. But it can help. I was thinking out loud about the Cavs' approach to all of this from an institutional point of view for people wondering why they've done what they've done.

Did everyone see the bodycam video? I don't mean to make light of this but there is a famous scene in The Wire for any fans out there:

Can an employer fix something this? I don't know.
