2019 Draft, Pick #30 - Kevin Porter Jr., USC

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Becomes more and more baffling how he didn’t at least go in the lottery. He’s still only 19, he’s shown more than all of Garland, Culver and Reddish have. He didn’t play much college either. Each month he has improved, his development is a lot more linear than Garlands so far

Maturity and off the court issues were the biggest concern coming into the draft. It must have been such a concern that he nearly saw himself slide entirely out of the 1st round.

His talent was never in question.

Seems like USC handled him wrong. Koby was in on him from the start.

Plus no off court issues here and seems like a good teammate. If he stays healthy a steal in the draft

Anyone else think his ceiling is sky high? Not sure it's Superstar high but definitely in the 20's scorer with a very good floor game? This is just a 19 year old kid!

I didn't include his first game back (16 mins) but since his injury he's been playing really well!
16 pts
50% fg
43% on 3s

21 pts per 36 min

Just lacks that straight line, first step explosiveness

If,he stays out of trouble and work on his craft,he'll be a superstar player in the league..

Can't you say that about every player drafted in the first round, though? Like it is rare that these guys do not enter the league with a baseline athleticism.

I actually really like Porter and he is definitely gifted. But most analytics have him as one of the worst players in the league this year - below both Sexton and Garland. There is a reason for that. He is a flashy defender but not a good one, he is either fire or ice-cold, and he is not a great passer.

With that said, I think tonight - through three quarters - has been his best game as a Cav. He is incredibly talented and his first step is scary. But working on your craft and staying out of trouble is a baseline requirement for NBA success.

Spot on. Porter is the worst player in the league Cut ties asap

Sexton is a future all star. Period

Im not sure if you’re being sarcastic. I don’t like the fact his court vision of seeing and actually passing to open guys is like Stevie Wonder. It doesn’t exist.

Actually heard Stevie was faking his blindness...so you never know.

Or was it Ray Charles..?

No offense, but all the numbers guys have been wrong about him from day 1. He was one of the youngest in the draft. His progress from oct to now means his stats up till now are heavily skewed by a slow start. He has gotten better every month.

Nathan S said there were a hundred guys as good as him and Imwithdan said he went right where he was supposed to at the time of the draft. Do you believe that?

Just saying the numbers thing can mean something, but it isn't everything. It's obvious there is something there with this kid when you watch him. I don't know how high his ceiling goes, but he literally got better while he was sitting on the bench and watching and has been much more consistent since coming back.

Looking at his yearling numbers isn't indicative of much. You have to compare month to month
