2019 Draft, Pick #30 - Kevin Porter Jr., USC

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Porter was the best player on the court tonight, although TT and Nance were both excellent again. It is starting to click and you can feel his confidence out there. Even the way he brings the ball up the court ... earlier in the season, late in close games (the few close ones we've had), KPJ would never have been cool and calm bringing the ball up against pressure. He didn't hesitate, went right at the pressure and beat it several times on his own with his skills and court awareness.

Those little things are even more important to me than his shooting numbers, because those will continue to fluctuate. His confidence should only get higher as he adjusts and realizes he is almost always going to be among the most talented players on the court.

That closing lineup... DG, KPJ, Nance, Love, TT.... Props to ALL of those guys on tenacious defensive efforts literally every time down court in the 4th quarter and overtime. Just fantastic.

How is he still not starting?

He was just ejected for double techs a few nights ago. He still needs to figure a few things out. I'll say that after I took a little break from catching Cavs games over the holidays, his jump shot has gone from liability to asset. Credit goes to the development coaches, because his consistent form is opening up everything for his drives.

If he can become consistent and keep his temper under control, the Cavs would need to trade one of Sexton or Garland by this offseason (my guess is they would prefer to keep the latter)... KPJ just have the NBA size, athleticism and game to play SG both offense and defense... The only thing that would hold him back is health and his attitude... In a way he kinda remind me of young JR Swish, there is talent there just need to keep healthy and stay out of his own way attitudewise

Yeah you will have to give us a minute...we are not use to our young guys actually developing and getting better as the season goes on... it has been a while

If last year's draft was re-done, when would KPJ be taken?
If it's a redraft, based on what we see today, Top 5.

If it's back in time, and he has no off the court issue...he easily goes in the lottery.

I don't keep up on rookie stats but he has to be 1st team all rookie in his limited role.

KPjr! Video game!

His hesitation off of a pnr is deadly. Made great reads whether to pass or take it strong to the basket. And he invites contact and finishes strong! A little tweak in his form will make him a better shooter.

For now, he's better in the clarkson role because he gets alot of freedom with the second unit.
