2019 Draft, Pick #30 - Kevin Porter Jr., USC

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Bickerstaff said his teammates need to learn to be ready for those passes in the paint. He is so crafty with those and they are so fast, guys miss great passes a lot.

He and Sexton can co-exist and might be trouble.

I'm beginning to feel more and more like Garland is the odd man out.

I know, I know, he's only a rookie and young and took a year off for injury blah blah blah... but Sexton and KPJ continue to show me "something" and Garland... well.... just doesn't do that very often

I will die on the “KPJ is at least 6’6” hill. He just looks so much bigger than all the other guards.

He looks exactly the same size as Iggy to me when they played Miami. he has that kind of build too where he plays bigger than his size. I have been pleasantly surprised by how well he has guarded larger players in the post.

Garland's issue is thatt he's playing along side with two players that's aggressive and he's too passive. I understand,he wants to get everyone involved but when he's wide open he needs to take the wide open shot.

With that said, I think Sexton, Garland and Porter will improve next season...

Can you imagine, if Porter and Garland work on their three-point shot and getting Windler back from injury...

Porter plays like turd for 3 straight games and this forum arm waves. In no way did he and Sexton look good together. Period. They are to alike and it hurt Porter.

I think the thing to watch with Porter is his getting a little caught up in the hype. He needs to stay grounded and not try to do too much too soon. Whereas Garland can be too deferential at times, Porter seems to go to the opposite extreme sometimes. Just my random two cents.

I hope he struggles. I cant continue to pay these premium prices for his rookie cards.

I paid $150 for a 1 of 1 card with autos going north of $600

Porter had 16, 4, and 4. Did you expect him to get 30 again?

Starting backcourt

48, 7, and 9

What are you complaining about? He missed some 3's?

The back court wasn't the issue. Jazz were killing them with Gobert, and then when they helped, they got wide open 3's. Lot's of guys missed shots and the inside game was stifled by the DPOY

From Chris Fedor's long piece on Porter at cleveland.com:

"Porter’s passing potential has Bickerstaff thinking about experimenting with him at point guard over the final few weeks, giving him more opportunities to be a playmaker and explore what that would mean for Porter -- and the franchise -- moving into 2020-21. “I think he’s one of our best passers,” Bickerstaff said. “I wouldn’t put a position on him.”

Interesting. I could see him at point guard for sure. If nothing else he would bring a lot more defense to the position than we've seen lately.

If he goes to PG where does Garland go? Sexton can be a scoring 2 guard but Garland hasn't showed any sign of that whatsoever.

I will say this again, people expect too much from the young players. It's almost like Sexton, Garland and Porter have to play perfect to make some people happy and that's unrealistic.

Young players make mistakes that's going to happen. All you hope for is that they make a mistake and learn from it.

I don't understand, why people put so much pressure on the young players but we know a player that's lazy on defense all the time and shows up once in a blue moon.

KPJ running point, Sexton essentially playing SG...a lot to like there. KPJ can pick up the SGs on defense. Theres a solution to our problem.

Garland can run the second unit. He doesn’t factor into my long term plans until he starts to actually perform. If we’re in that position come trade deadline next season, we can make the hard choices then. Garland will either be looking like a bustola or force the issue. Either way we’ll know where we stand.
