2019 Draft, Pick #30 - Kevin Porter Jr., USC

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Rolled it over and marijuana in the car, too. Great. Drugs, a loaded gun, and driving out of control. How many games are we looking at?

Weed is a minor offense in Ohio, not an offense in most states, and 5 games in the NBA as only the NFL still cares about weed. Not impaired, sucks he rolled his car and was tired at 2:30 AM, but nothing really here but a really bad night for Porter, but nothing hugely illegal.

NBA quietly stopped testing for weed in the bubble. I am wondering if they just stop entirely. Curious to see if he gets a suspension for the weed part or if they just say the gun.

The gun offense is a felony.

The gun offense is a felony.

Felony if child gains access, or under influence or fire the weapon, misdemeanor otherwise.

PS, this is from a lawyer website

Improper transport of a firearm in a vehicle = This is generally a fourth-degree misdemeanor charge. Penalties for a conviction can include $250 in fines and up to 30 days in jail.

Mishandling a firearm in a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs = This violation can be either a fifth-degree felony or fourth-degree felony charge. Fifth-degree felony convictions can mean $2,500 in fines and six to 12 months in jail. A fourth-degree felony conviction can mean $$5,000 in fines and six to 18 months of imprisonment.

Discharging a firearm from a vehicle = This is often considered to be the most serious violation of this weapons law, and is generally charged as a fourth-degree felony, which means a possible 18 months in prison and $5,000 fine.

Its the most minor, and he will get a lawyer, no fucking way he gets anything but a misdemeanor. He didnt fire it, wasnt under influence, and he was legally allowed to own it.

I have a good job offer there. Worth considering? People keep telling me it's a dump

Good job offer is a good job offer. Hour from CLE and Pitt. Depends on where you live there. There are parts that is a dump.

Hopefully not an Ohio lawyer, because what you just said there is an incorrect statement of Ohio law

Carrying a loaded gun in a car where it is accessible without leaving the vehicle (not in your trunk) is a felony, not a misdemeanor. Here's a link to the code sections. It's ORC 2923.16(B) and (I)

The reports on Cleveland.com use the "carrying a loaded weapon" language of subsection (B), so that is a felony. Mahoning County media also reports that:

This is not a small deal, but honestly, I won't be too worried about it until it becomes a serious trend or his positives stop emerging. Like, if he has these minor character issues and is not really improving, then it is more of an issue. Alternatively, even if he is really improving, if these character concerns keep emerging then that is a concern.

But the only two guys on this team I can see as important rotation/starter-type player on a playoff team are Sexton and KPJ. The Cavs should be operating in order to maximize their development.

I think Nance would be a rotation guy as well, though he doesn't really need development at this point. Perhaps Windler too -- depends what he shows this year.

Could be a lot of really interesting stuff going on in the next day or so. I expect one of TT, Love, and Drummond not to be here when the season begins, and if the rumors that we're looking at Okoro at 5, and that we're trying to trade back up into the lottery are correct, we may be targeting a big with that second pick.

Assuming that happens, we'd have Sexton/Garland/KPJ/Okoro/Windler all looking for minutes at the 1-3. Don't know where that leaves Cedi, so I wonder if the FO plans some other moves involving one or more of those guys.

What's crazy is none of these guys, including Cedi, are a prototypical 3.

I forgot about Nance (shows you where my mind has been, lol!). Yeah, I would include him there because he is definitely a late-bloomer. Learning to play the three, for Nance, was huge at the end of last season.

I think Garland and Cedi are probably the most likely to be traded. One thing Altman has shown is that he is not necessarily set on this being a straight three-year rebuild. If it takes four or five years, that sucks, but so be it. The worst world to be in is where you invest a lot in flawed players and find yourself on the treadmill (see Chicago Bulls).

This was the issue with taking Garland and KPJ. It was possible to make Sexton, Garland, and KPJ work, but the rest of the roster needed to be 3+D guys, and that really puts you into a tough spot in a draft because you cannot focus on best player available.

Okoro makes sense insofar as I think he gives you a defensive wing. A Sexton-Okoro-KPJ-Nance-__ lineup probably could become good defensively, even with Sexton. My gut says, if that is your starting five, you will want bigger guys that can shoot coming off the bench.

Not a good look at all..

Did I mention shades of Delonte all over again? Clearly talented but serious concerns outside of basketball.
