2019 Draft, Pick #30 - Kevin Porter Jr., USC

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I can't help but think of the younger J.R. Smith and Latrell Sprewell when I see Porter Jr. Great amount of talent yet so immature... Worst case, he is unable to take advantage of the opportunity the Cavs give him to shine. Hope he proves me wrong.

Still hasn’t been at practice w team. He’s in Cleveland but they’re not letting him play.

No summer league and now missing what little training camp there is doesn't bode well for KPJ as far as any playing time goes
in the first 10 games or so. When he comes back he's going to be at the bottom of the pecking order for playing time.
This is the chance for the organization to send a message to him to knock off the nonsense.

Supposedly other infractions that are not public mixed w the public ones for a reason he’s not there

I'm all for punishments and sending a message

.... but this is one of those rare cases where I'm not sure keeping him home is the best punishment. He needs to be at the facility, around other positive influences, and where they can monitor his daily progress.

I would think his required court appearance placed him outside the bubble, so he would have to restart the quarantine/ test cycle to get back in...

A lot of courts are doing virtual appearances, I think? That's how it is in NY at least.

I really want to discount this whole thing and give him the benefit of the doubt, but we heard rumblings of him getting into trouble even before the gun incident. I feel for the guy and really like him. I want him to succeed and think he has a lot of talent.

He needs to lock in. I really would like him to play and it is crucial to his development, but a shocking wake up call right now and losing playing time, could be the best thing for him long term.

Why is he missing? Have they said?
It seems to be related more to his court case than Covid related. KPJ needs structure in his life, so him being away from the team is NOT good. It appears the Cavs don’t want him around the team right now, for whatever reason.

I don’t think KPJ in danger of being cut, but one or both parties appear to be have asked for a timeout, which could be a prelude to an eventual divorce.

Thanks. I'm thinking that there has to be more here than what's seen on the surface.

I said it at the beginning. Shades of Delonte.

Rumor has it that he's been seeking some mental health help. Take the rumor with a grain of salt because I'd pretty much guarantee it'll never get confirmed publically.

Then it shouldn’t be said
