“We’re gonna try to run more” is THE WORST. used by bad teams hoping to hide their lack of talent and IQ by running the floor.

Should be obvious to anyone who's ever played that you need *more* talent and IQ in order to play at a faster pace. Classic lottery team look where the players are running all over the place but the ball can't keep up.

And really talented ball handlers at multiple positions. I do think we have above average ball handling from the Frontcourt. Really our team should be running because:

Nobody but Drummond should be going for Off rebounds.

Love is so good at the full court pass.

Multiple guys can start the break: Love, Nance, Cedi, any of our guards. Maybe WIndler and Drummond has done it although I don't want him to.

I'd agree with that. The Cavs have some good lineup options offensively, especially because Love and Nance give us plus ballhandling/passing/shooting in the frontcourt. When we lose games it's usually because of our defense.

Where "we're gonna try to run more" is really bad advice is for terrible offensive teams. I can't think of a single scenario in life where someone's struggling with something and the right advice is "try doing it faster!" :chuckle:

What do offensive rebounds have to do with running? Isn't running usually triggered by what happens on the defensive end?

Anyway, I don't like the idea of trying to push us into running more until we get things on the defensive end figured out much better. Otherwise, it's an invitation for guys to abandon their assignments and take off as soon as the ball goes up, and I think that's a bad idea with this team. If we improve defensively, we'll have more steals/busted plays/rebounds from bad shots by the other team, and that's what will let us become more of a running team.

I agree. But I also think it's really bad advice for terrible defensive teams.

That's probably true. Leading the league in turnover rate last year didn't do our defense any favors.

Just tougher to get stops when your guards are going for the offensive rebound and not getting back. I consider everyone not the Center going for offensive rebounds a defensive lapse. Defensive rebounding is the last part of defense, getting back is the first.

Great point made earlier, Toronto won a championship with Lowry and VanFleet playing a ton of minutes together. Both guys are smaller than Sexton and Garland

Lowry is short but built like a tank, not sure either of the Cavs guy have that kind of strength in them

Not sure if this is completely new. My favourite thing is actually to watch Ben Simmons brick 15 footers in the background
