I hear what you’re saying but then why even give him a verbal warning?

LBJ didn't actually get a warning. Teams did. What the league said is that if they discover that a player's comments were part of an orchestrated effort by team management to pry a player away from another team, that's tampering. But LBJ's comments alone can't be the basis for tampering. So players are going to keep saying what they want.

I think a lot of players make horrible talent evaluators. I remember when Kevin Garnett was sure Thon Maker would be a star. This isn't to say that Garland wont end up being a star. I just don't take former or current players talent evaluation as gospel.
Yup, just like when LBJ wanted Hughes over Redd and Allen… then he really wanted Napier

I don't remember him wanting hughes as much as he was the guy we could get. The guy I wanted was Joe Johnson and I was extremely disappointed we didn't make a play for him. Jerry West is an outlier amongst players/former players for talent evaluation.

I remember that kind of cringeworthy situation where LBJ said or was asked about the whole "Batman needing a Robin" thing, and whatever his response was, it amounted to "yeah, that would be nice", and then someone immediately asked "What about (his teammate) Larry Hughes" and then LBJ mumbled something about yeah, that was his Robin.

Don't think he was enchanted with Hughes.

I'm just trying to bring a different perspective on things than the usual Sexton vs Garland stuff we usually go into.

Here is a new topic. How much will it really take to break Garland's tendencies to not play quickly or aggressively? I think it will take alot because his dad was an NBA PG so Darius has been coached up by his dad his whole life to play a certain way. I think it will take someone really accomplished to reset how he views playing the game. I don't simply think it will be someone working out with him over a summer. I think he needs someone day in day out during the season in his ear. Someone that he wants to mold his game to be like.

I'm not sure. Garland took a mental leap as well as a physical one last year. He made great passes his rookie year, but he wasn't great as a floor general. Some people liked him, but many were unsure of his ability to run the offense. I think most people think he can now.

So, how fast can he make decisions? Can he do it faster, can he probe the defense by attacking earlier, instead of slowing it down and waiting for something to develop.

Over dribbling isn't unusual especially guys like Garland that have a good handle.

Still, I think it's very possible he moves the offense faster as he just gets more used to the NBA. Gamespeed is still one of his weaknesses. Like he needs to get a pass off faster from the middle for it to make it to the corner. He gets those picked off a lot.

I have read alot of articles with so called experts talking about Garland as being a player Cleveland wouldn't trade.
What has the guy done? He is hurt half the time, and can't guard anyone, am i missing something?

Both.

Seriously though, Draymond is a competitor and a dedicated pro athlete. He might be an asshole, but he can play on my team anytime.
Lest we forget, Draymond was the reason Golden State was in that game. 32 points, 6 of 8 from deep. Oh yeah, 15 boards and 9 assists as well.

He was the epitome of "dude you can't stand when he plays for the opponent, but you'd take him in a heartbeat if you could."

Also the guy who shook hands and gave us all the credit for beating them.

... and then hit up KD and begged him to join the Dubs and break the league. So he's still an asshole. But as the one dude in whichever Die Hard movie said, "Oh, I'm an asshole. I'm just your kind of asshole." He shone brightest in Finals Game Seven, and that cannot be disregarded.

Actually he did….there was an article I read back then that reported the incident. And in the article it stated “League officials reached out to James and gave him a firm warning of making such comments”!

If it actually said that, then whoever wrote that was sloppy. I've read the CBA provisions, and it's clear the rule applies to franchises not players. If that wasn't the case, there'd be massive warnings because players talk all the time, and admit it. Here's another article that makes that point:

Garland discussed his expectations this season, where he ranks among NBA point guards, why the playoffs are a goal for the Cavaliers, what Evan Mobley, Lauri Markkanen and Ricky Rubio will bring to the team.
