af watching the Hawks last night I thought Garland could easily be as good as Young. He just needs to let it go and takeover.

Agree. Trae Young has realized it's 'his team' and he gives himself the total green light -- as displayed last night.

I think as the season goes along we'll slowly start to see Garland give himself the green light more often.

I hate Trae Young for some reason.

Really wanted the Cavs to draft him, but I can't stand him.

For some reason I agree. I don’t know what it is but I find him irritating.

It may sound asinine, but I think Garland has better handles, quicker, shiftier, better defender(is it significant though?) and has a better shot than Trae. Trae is a better passer, but Garland shows that he is not too shabby in that regard.

Trae has the green light and is super high volume 3pt shooter. I don't feel he is consistent and his size and is inconsistency will bite them in the playoffs.

Obviously Trae is the better player now, but it's mostly because he has a decent team around him, he has the keys to do whatever he wants with no conscious and was not sidelined for a year with injuries before coming into the NBA. It's all on paper of course, but looking at what Garland does well, and I can't ignore how good he is in certain things and potentially better in certain areas. It just depends in what shape he is and if he is able to showcase what he is capable of.

Garland needs the green light. Bottom line.

I think Garland has better court vision and a better release. His ceiling seems higher to me than Young.

It is higher. But a lot of players don't reach their ceilings for different reasons.
Anyways, I can't wait to find out. I love almost everything about him. Basketball wise and personality wise. Let's see if he has the dog in him too.

The thing is that Sexton is also a "green light" type player, who on the offensive end wants to attack the basket and take lots of shots. (Sexton's rookie year usage rating was over 25%, very high for a rookie -- compare Lebron rookie usage rating of 28%). A green light for Garland too is going to mean our offense is basically just those two trading off taking shots.

Another reason why the Sexton-Garland pairing could be a problem.

Then Sexton needs to come off the bench. Or Garland/Sexton need to be subbed out early and play with Delly.

You guys are under-rating Trae. I didn't believe he would be this good coming out of college, but he has exceeded everyone's expectations. 19 pts, 8 ast, 4 rbs, 1 st in only 30 minutes per game. If we got that from Sexton or Garland, we would be ecstatic. Our guys have a long way to go to get up to Trae's level. Not only the stats, but he has that bulldog mentality, and is not afraid of the moment.

I wanna see efficiency from Young before proclaiming hes a franchise player. He didn't score at an efficient rate at all last year and turns it over at an alarming pace. He's a different type of player then Garland and Sexton who both have a more natural feel for scoring.

Young has amazing court vision and can make passes others can't but his feel for scoring wasn't there last year and I wanna see a run of games not just 1 before I believe he solved his efficiency issues.

Not underrating Trae. He isn't exceeding my expectations. I had him as "similar" offensive talent(in terms of gravity on the floor..again no one is as good as Curry) to Curry that would need to be surrounded by defenders to mask his defensive deficiencies.

I just don't think we would have had this luxury this early. And, above all i'm just very high on Garland and prefer his play style.

I also think that Young will be killed on switches in the playoffs. Same as Morant. I also think Trae's risky passing and long range shooting don't translate as well in the playoffs as it does in the RS. Garland is more stout and is projected to be a better defender than both.

The rookie year stats between Kyrie and Trae are very similar, except for the percentages. However, Trae played 81 games and Kyrie 51...30 less.

Trae stats:

G GS MP FG FGA FG% 3P 3PA 3P% 2P 2PA 2P% eFG% FT FTA FT% ORB DRB TRB AST STL BLK TOV PF PTS
81 81 30.9 6.5 15.5 .418 1.9 6.0 .324 4.6 9.6 .477 .480 4.2 5.1 .829 0.8 2.9 3.7 8.1 0.9 0.2 3.8 1.7 19.1

All this does for me is shed more light on how inefficient Trae was last year.

Also important to note that Kyrie's rookie year was shortened by the lockout.

Not to hate on Trae, as I had him near the top of my big board and still like his chances to be a star in this league. But it's important to note that his numbers were inflated somewhat last year by the Hawks' pace. E.g.

per-36 minutes: Irving 21.8 points, Young 22.3 points

per-100 possessions: Irving 31.8 points, Young 28.6 points
