He consistently got beat going under screens. It started when he was on Richardson and went from there. I think
Beilein factored that in for the minutes down the stretch, though the major reason there was Clarkson had
it going .

Garland plays defense like last years' version of Sexton.

I think he contests better, but his avoiding contact method is hard to watch sometimes. He gets bullied and then just plays matador at the rim.

Kid needs to get a lot stronger.

The best scouting phrase I ever heard was "Don't worry about young guys playing the right way". I think that is probably the Mantra for Garland this whole season.

He's young, he needs to improve his body and conditioning but he's smart, he plays within the system, he's shown flashes of discernible NBA skills......I think he'll be fine in the long run.

I'm encouraged if anything. I thought he was a bad playmaker, but he obviously has good vision and instincts. He's known as a silky shooter, so I am pretty confident he returns to normal there. He is just sped up. He looked great when the pace was slightly slower. He needs the to figure out the speed of the game and how to get in a rhythm better.

IMO both he and KPJ are suffering shooting wise because they are used to pounding the rock a lot to get into their rhythm.

Nice to see Darius hit a few threes tonight. He needs to keep that up to fully unlock his offensive potential.

First time I've seen him come out shooting after a rough first half. Which is good to see. His confidence is likely coming back up which is a good next step.

Wrong thread.

Starting to worry he may not have the physical tools to be a true star. He can use his handle to get in the lane and supposedly he can shoot but you need to have those spades if your not an uber athlete at the lead guard position. Wall and Westbrook have physically declined but now you have Morant and Fox as the future. Then the other type you see is Trae Young types who can shoot the light out.

And last year at this time Trae Young was shooting about as well as Garland is. Can't make assumptions 1 month into a players career.

Sure like I've said I've been a fan of Garland but man the Trae Young comparisons that people keep bringing up kills me as it's just not how Young's season in terms of perception played out.

Not only was it obvious that Young had exceptional court vision but in his first 11 games he already had 4 games over 20 point with career high at that point of 35 points. He had some awful shooting games but those were mixed as noted with some real good performances (he had one game with 25 points and 15 assists and even in his 35 point game he had 11 assists!). Young actually dipped after what I would say was a good start over the next 10 games and then he slowly progressed after that. It was that second quarter of the season when he dipped, the Doncic comparisons really flared up in a negative way for ATL.

A better comparison for those who want to preach watch and wait maybe Fox who didn't look like much pretty much his entire rookie year before bursting into the scene last year

I did not compare him to Trae Young as a player at all. Also I'm talking efficiency not volume. Young had much more freedom then Garland is getting. I compared their struggles. As for Fox they are complete opposites coming out of college. Fox was ultra athetlic and not much of a shooter. Garland was a shooter who isn't an elite athlete. So Fox is also way off base. It's also been 10 games that's still a very small sample size. No real comp for Garland considering the circumstances. How much is rust and how much is issues with the increase in competition?

He was very quick at times tonight. These strong guys are pretty hard on him. He's just too weak.

Liked how he bounced back in the 3rd and stole the ball and shot those wide open shots. Best he's looked in terms of aggression. It's all confidence with him.

I'm not concerned about playmaking tight now. He has vision, Miami disrupted the offense.

This has been a rough start, but he is getting a trial by fire. I like how he has hung in there. I thought against Indiana he looked like he was sulking. I'm not seeing that now
