Yeah and he has already improved, but his disastrous start to the season is going to drag down this years numbers no matter what. He's playing like the 2nd best rookie right now, but you would not be able to tell by the stats.
His user rate stayed consistent but his scoring went up shows improved efficiency.

I wanted Morant but Im pleased we got Garland. Both will be in the NBA,for a very longtime, if they choose to get better each offseason.
How can garland not get a single rebound in two games? At some point the ball just bounces to you. Lack of effort? Its like sexton and assists

What a bum. Dude averages just 2 reb per game. If he wants to stick around in this league he's going to have to give more effort. I guess now both of our young guns are busts.

There was a post about how he didn't get single block this season. Then either against Denver or LA he got one, but Mckinnie fouled the guy so he didn't get credit for it. I laughed.

I think a lot of people get lost in the numbers saying, "Well nobody with these numbers ever succeeded", but the entire NBA consists of outliers. Jimmy Butler has worse numbers than Collin his rookie year at an older age than Collin is now.

Like, if you can measure it with numbers, everyone is going to agree with you, but you will only be right about sure things. Talent evaluation is all about projecting the best outcome while having indicators, but very little to go on.

We have 3 rookie, 5 if you count Dean Wade and the Coach himself. This whole season is a balancing act to try not to alienate vets and try to win over the young guys to your philosophy. We need time and lots of reps

Tonight is his time to shine lets see him do it I think with the big stage going against morant

He was 14 and 5 in Cleveland. Im expecting him to play better but Sexton and the bench needs to step up though.Sexton had nine points and Clarkson had thirty-three points off the bench in the game.

Oh yeah forgot Clarkson killed it that hard in that game

Has anyone compared him to his dad's rookie season lol. Kinda eerie. Very similar, but dear old dad had a better free throw rate and more assists

I didn't until now look into the Garland family history. Pretty crazy that the family stuck around in Gary, Indiana until the middle of last decade, apparently, considering Pops had some wealth from being in the NBA through the mid-90s.

A few random quotes on Garland....

"I think that’s going to be a few years before we see [Garland’s full skill set]. It was so hard to tell what we would see, because, again, he didn’t have the benefit of even a college year. He didn’t have the benefit of summer league. He really didn’t have the benefit of a September, we were still really cautious with his injury. What I’m seeing in the NBA is you got to put young players out there and they don’t learn in practice like they would in college. They learn in games." - Beilein, 1/3/20

“You’re the future point guard of this franchise,” [Tristan] Thompson said of his message to Garland. “You’re the head of the snake of this franchise for a long time..."

"Darius (Garland) hasn’t even been through a (college) 35-game schedule, and we’ve already played more than 40 games. He’s got great instincts. He sees the floor well, he has a point guard’s mind." - Beilein, 1/25/20

Garland might be hitting a wall. He's shooting 38.3% in January after 42.8% in December. But I read he got sick and lost some weight so maybe that accounts for it. Normally he doesn't go 4-for-20 and 4-for-17 in back-to-back games.

He’s really struggling with his shot right now, shooting just under 31% from the floor and 29% from 3 over the last two weeks or so. Also been turning the ball over a lot, I hope he can get through this tough stretch because before this it was beginning to seem like he was making some real progress.
