2019 FA and Offseason Mega Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Trading Sexton now makes no sense to me. This team is 2-3 years away from relevance at a minimum and it is impossible to project what that team will look like. Get as many talented players as possible onto the roster and time will determine how, or if, they fit together. One of the knocks on Sexton a year ago was that he was more like a shooting guard than a point guard.

Size may not make Garland the best back court match for him, but until you see them together in the structure of the Beilein offense and defense, I think you have to give them time.

The offense intrigues me and probably will be fun to watch. But it won’t work defensively. There’s realities of physics and shit. They simply aren’t long enough. It’s a switch heavy league. Spidery George Hill was even having issues in the playoffs.

We shouldn’t be looking to fix ALL the problems at once so I don’t care. But we have to be realistic

Its 2019 who cares about defense? Sexton and Garland are longer then both FVV and Kyle Lowry who closed out the NBA championship. If Sexton and Garland outscore the other teams guards and we get them two plus defensive forwards and a anchor at center you can cover up their lack of defense. Although Sexton is plenty long enough with a 6-7.25 wing span to cover SGs. Beverley has made a living out of it and hes 6-1 with a 6-7 wingspan.

I really think, other than perhaps a bottom of the roster signing, the Cavs offseason is basically over. They will end up waiving JR Smith by 7/15 and moving into the season with they they have.

Jeremi Grant has turned into a decent player. I'm a little surprised that Presti doesn't see him as part of the rebuild, as he's only 24 years old. Maybe he thinks an energy player like Grant will never be more valuable than now, entering his mid-twenties.

The Thunder just acquired Gallinari and he will take Grant’s minutes, so Presti did a good job getting a first round pick & getting the team below the luxury tax

Grant's 3 point shot was up to 39% this year but has been erratic his whole career. I think this is Presti selling high regardless of what they do with Westbrook.

If they keep Westbrook I think they look to put more scoring around him. From this Woj tweet they seem to want to keep Gallo.

Grant has more value then a late first. They basically cap dumped him. He shot 39 percent from deep and got over a BPG. It will not shock me if hes starting over Millsap by midseason. He's the perfect PF long term next to Jokic.

The Thunder not only got a first round pick for Grant, but they saved themselves $39 million with the deal. How is that not a great deal??

I’m really impressed by Sam Presti. He got an amazing haul for Paul George. That deal may end up looking better than what David Griffin got for AD, which is truly amazing.

The thunder had an overpriced, underachieving team that was capped out. Presti is basically turning chicken shit into chicken salad. I hope Koby Altman is paying attention because Presti is putting on a clinic

It's hard to trust guys who 3pt percentage vary so much from year to year. His percentages by year are 31%, 24%, 37%, 37%, 29%, and 39%. While he is a career 33%. He might be worth more than a late first round pick if he is a 39% shooter but if he goes into 29% again or even shoots his career 33%, he becomes a negative asset.

I said it was a money deal. It wasn't a basketball move. OKC owner is just cheap. Grant for a late first is a bad basketball move. Its a good money deal.

Paul George deal was essentially for Paul George and Kawhi. George also wasn't an expiring so naturally they should get more value. AD was dealt for Lakers trash and people praising the Pelicans for it. Its just strange.

Last year was his first year shooting a high number of 3s. His attempts skyrocketed as did his efficiency. I don't know what he shoots next year but its clearly something he worked on last off season.

Sure, he needs to work on consistency with his shot but if my late first rounder ends up being a Grant level player I take it and run. I think in most cases and most drafts a late first rounder is one of the most overrated assets there is, but when you accumulate it with a 39 mil saving I understand why they did it. I just would've tried to shed salary another way and kept a solid young player for the rebuild.

It looks like OKC is going full rebuild and I imagine Westbrook is next:

Nice job by Sam Presti getting a first round pick for Grant AND getting them out of the luxury tax. OKC has a TON of picks now in which to rebuild. Quite frankly, I’m jealous...
One less candidate for a shirtless JR salary dump trade... Looking more likely that he just gets waived with 500k extra in his pocket...
