2019 FA and Offseason Mega Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
We may not hold a team under 100 all year...has that ever been done before?

A top 10 pick is worth an entire losing season... or not?

FiveThirtyEight has us projected as the worst team in the league at 21-61 with a -8.0 differential/game.

I don’t agree with that at all. I think, at a minimum, Washington, Memphis, New York, & Charlotte are all worse. The Cavaliers have some nice young talent as well as some quality veterans, like Love, Thompson, Nance, Henson, Delly, & Clarkson. Additionally, John Beilein will get the most out of this group. If they stay healthy, I look for between 30-35 wins, which means we’d be in danger of losing our first round pick to New Orleans.

I will kindly bet you whatever amount you want to donate to RCF that the Cavaliers do not win 30 times this upcoming season.

I thought we were really close to the tax? Can we sign this guy without going back into it? Would be a good move,,nothing to lose maybe we can develop him.
Good question. They’re VERY close to the tax, as in about $1 million away or less. My guess is it would have to be a partially guaranteed deal, as they’re not gonna risk going into the luxury tax for a guy like Bender.

Notice I said ‘if they stay healthy?’ I’d only take that bet with the veterans playing a minimum number of games. If the Cavs hold the veterans out, then I don’t take that bet. Then again, I don’t really understand the point of keeping Kevin Love around if you aren’t going to play him & he’s just a depreciating asset?? That just makes no sense to me.

They will rest veterans if necessary to make sure we keep our pick.

That is the plan. It’s a lock. It’s always been the plan.

Saying you’d only take the bet if Love and the vets play 82 games isn’t a thing. They never were going to.

We’re a developing team, remember?

You don’t get to raise concern that we have a 30-35 win team so we may lose our pick, and then when @CBBI says there’s no way we win 30, you turn around and say “Well, only if we play the young guys.”

We were always playing the young guys. Thus, your original premise that we have a 30-35 win team is entirely void.

Fully agree but in his defense, it's probably only safe to say that we will do whatever it takes to be bottom 6 (ensuring we keep our pick)--the Wizards finished 6th in the tanking race with 32 wins so hey maybe it's possible. . . Still would not bet on 30 wins though :chuckle:
