2019 FA and Offseason Mega Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The record really isn't important here. Giving Beilein the necessary time to install his system is the priority. In order to give this young team a foundation to build on for the future.

They are effectively starting the rebuild this season with a new coach and a ton of young guys/vets with injury issues. I hate to say it but they are right there with some of the worst teams in league because of how this roster is constructed and the new coaching hire.
I am more optimistic than most. Sexton garland can shoot the three and penetrate
Love and windler can shoot from deep. Zizic to clean up and pnr. Still got nance knight tt and delly
Clarkson should be moved asap

Agreed. The beginning of the season may look very much like the beginning of last season. It will be the end of the season that really starts to show how the staff is making an impact. The same thing last year when we were playing competitive and still losing made things a little tolerable. At least the ticket prices will be low again here in Portland so I can get some good seats!

Yeah, Clarkson is a gunner that works on contender. Just naturally isn't a good fit here.

I'm more down on them for the defense. It was always questionable with Love and post-injury TT, but now it's gonna be worse with so many young players trying to find their role.

The goal this year isn’t wins. The goal is that by summer 2020 this team will have some concrete prospects and a clearer direction for the future. We aren’t even properly classified as a rebuilding team at this point, more in the floundering stage

Anyone else disappointed they didn’t put in a waiver claim for mini-Greek Freak? I wanted him, or Dragan, to develop with the young guards and wings, but we got neither.

No. He’s nothing like his brother.

I think he is just a rim runner at this point. He only got into 2 games for the Mavs last season and only scored 10 points per game in the G-league.

He is a big project at this point and probably would have been better off staying in college or going to Europe.

Giannis had a developmental path that is hard to replicate.

Sam The Bullshit Whisperer reported the Cavs were interested in Ben McLemore & Sinarius Thornwell. McLemore just signed with the Rockets on a 2-year, partially guaranteed deal.

Would be happy to get Thornwell...he deserves a shot somewhere, and would be a good backcourt partner for Sexton or Garland.

I think they're looking at G-Leaguers at this point to fill out the less than 3mill they have to fill out the roster since it seems everyone else is getting more than that.

I feel like most discussions for the past few weeks revolve around bottom of the roster additions, which don't really impact the team at all. The projections for a poor record reflect the fact the Cavs are pigeon-holing young players to be force fed minutes, and Love is the only upper tier player on the roster. The team is also hamstring from trying to improve for one more year because of the Atlanta trade.

In this reality, Altman is openly just trying to get this year over with, hoping some opportunity to trade a few expiring contracts will pan out at some point. I'm not optimistic they will.

I agree, but for any signing, even for the 15th spot on the roster, the primary consideration should be the player's potential to give you decent minutes on the basketball court. The Cavs could really use an athletic defensive-minded SG to take Nwaba's role. Maybe KPJ develops more quickly than expected and fills that void, or maybe a guy like Thornwell could do it.
