2019 FA and Offseason Mega Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Teams with cap space have dried up but only 5 teams including the Cavs are in luxury tax. Miami might be the only one that wants to clear to get off luxury tax but they are only ~2 million into the luxury tax after they sign Tyler Hero.

Also there are trade exception out there that would most likely be more appealing than JRs contract to clear cap with.

At this point I actually think adding JRs contract to a bigger trade so a team can absorb a player they want in another trade or in a 3 way is really the only way he is getting traded. The common value won't be there for both sides to do a salary dump.

I think at the end we are either including him in a bigger trade or more than likely waiving and stretching his guaranteed money to get under the luxury tax.
I tend to think it'll be the latter. But they extended the date to see if something will develop. I could definitely see some scenarios where he is used in a Westbrook trade, though the biggest question there is assets given up in trade. It would have to make it worth the Cavs' while and OKC's. I put together a trade of Westbrook to Detroit that used Cleveland and didn't involve Griffin, but Detroit would have to give up Four future firsts to do it - two to Cleveland and two to OKC. Not sure a scenario like that would happen - though they East might be wide open for the taking, so you never know what a team like the Pistons or someone else might do.

The Cavaliers picking something at the free agency should be getting someone that doesn't mess with our young core minutes and maybe some one that could grab some Love's minutes at the 4

I wouldn't mind going after Trey Lyles at this point if we can get him on a deal that allowed us to keep him long term if he works out. He is young and could soak up minutes at the 4 if we move on from Love.

I think if we can trade some of our vets and move JRs contract to get under the luxury tax, we could use part of the MLE on someone like Lyles.

I would assume this is the Cavs trying to ship JR for an asset.

However, I am surprised they are targeting Adams. A lot of bigs on the roster and very little at the wing position.

He’s 25. And I’m assuming OKC would want an expiring like TTs in a deal like this. That would clear the “logjam” of bigs. Miami needs JRs contract to get it done as well.

He turns 26 in 10 days. Hes the type of player you acquire when your ready to compete again not when you need to tank again. He does all the little things that could change a close loss to a win. He would be the perfect center to play with a Sexton and Garland backcourt though.

I understand the pick protections but if the front office doesn’t want to be bad this year can you blame them? Not every day you can get a quality player for expirings but the stars might be aligning here...

Would have been good with Lebron.

Now? don't want. Would rather get picks/young players. next years draft has good centers and we are loaded with centers. Don't see why we need his contract on the books.

If Westbrook trades break down or they don't find the assets to get it to work, it wouldn't be bad to be in talks with OKC. Love, TT, and JRs contract for Adams, Schroder, Patterson, SGA, and a good pick could work for both sides. OKC can use JRs contract to get someone like Allen Crabbe. OKC now has a starting 5 of Westbrook-Crabbe-Gallo-Love-TT. They still mantain their chest of assets for the future.

The Cavs get SGA and a good 1st round pick. The salaries should bring the Cavs below luxury tax. They might be able to flip Schroder. Adam can be the defensive anchor for Garland and Sexton. Patterson is another expiring. Maybe they can get Bazley too.

I don't know if it's been pointed out but it seems like Griff got our 2020 1st round pick for the Pelicans in the trade up from the Hawks. Maybe we can do a trade with the Pelcians down the line and get it back especially if the front office is trying to make winning moves like get Steven Adams.
