2019 Minor League Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'm intrigued by Ernie Clement because of his position versatility. Seems like a player Tito would love. Is there any hope that he grows into enough Power to be an every day guy? Or is it more likely he is a right handed super utility at the major league level?

I kind of like Clement too, but I doubt he'll ever develop into an everyday guy in the MLB solely because of his power. He's only got 4 HR in 773 ABs throughout his time in the minors, along with a .713 OPS (.367 SLG).

I wouldn't say he's a bad hitter thus far, but there's just no pop in that bat at all. I think some people on this board would beat him in a home run derby.

Was just scrolling through the Rubberducks roster and looking at the statlines - anybody have anything on Ka'ai Tom? He's already 25, so probably nothing crazy brewing there, but he's having a pretty nice year in Akron:

.286/.381/.511, 13 HR, 40 RBI, 11 2B, 5 3B, 3 SB

Seems like an interesting dude. Probably has an absolute ceiling as a AAAA outfielder though.

Clement feels like to me he will be an utility guy with a .275 hitter with a sub .400 slugging percentage. Good bat control and good contact skills, just won't hit for power like a lot of today's players will. By reports 2nd base will end up being his best defensive position on paper, but we could see him playing essentially everywhere on the diamond in due time since he was a college OF. He is a perfect fit talent wise for a Francona, Maddon etc who like the last position player on the bench who can play in multiple positions, with at least average defensive skills. Its very possible he could work his way onto the MLB bench next season.

I asked about Tom and I feel he will be a AAAA type of player, but his numbers this year states he had to make some type of changes this season to improve as much as he did. Honestly with Cleveland position prospects, how they do at AAA will make or break him. Pitching prospects usually the AA numbers will say a lot about them, but AAA for hitters normally is what to go by, He is 25 repeating Akron and if he doesn't finish the season with his current numbers by moving up to AAA, more than likely he isn't someone the Indians like going forward long term for the organization. I would base him off where he finishes the season and how he finishes the season. I don't expect anything of him going forward and don't expect him in the organization when he has a chance to get minor league free agency.

This is a slightly odd question, but if I am correct, Oscar Gonzalez is rule 5 eligible next season going into his 22 age season, do you see anyone taking a flier on him like the Orioles did with Santander or is Oscar not that good of a prospect? Also where do you guys see him going forward as a prospect?

He looks like a good pure hitter without an ounce of plate discipline. At a certain level you'd expect pitching to catch up with his natural talent without much to fall back on.

Pretty sure he was eligible last year as well

Nick Sandlin shut down for the year with the right forearm strain.

My real question was how do you see him as a prospect? See him being good enough in due time to make it to the pros?

Also can someone tells us about the two international signings today! @EdMonix11 @BimboColesHair

(Someone else may have to tag Bimbo since I think he has me on ignore lol)

Pastrano's scouting report from MLB.com is:

Scouting grades: Hit: 50 | Power: 40 | Run: 55 | Arm: 55 | Field: 55
There's a group of athletic prospects with smaller frames and big potential in this year's class. Pastrano fits that description perfectly.
At 5-foot-11 and 150 pounds, Pastrano is best known as an agile middle infielder with a chance to be a good hitter. He already has quick feet, soft hands and solid defensive actions. Add a strong arm that could end up above average and Pastrano has a chance to be a plus defender.
At the plate, Pastrano is a line-drive hitter who shows a good understanding of the strike zone. He drives the ball to the opposite field particularly well and has enough bat speed to compete against average and slightly-above-average fastballs. Like most prospects his age, Pastrano is still refining his hitting mechanics and overall consistency at the plate. He has limited power and projects to be an average hitter. He's a good runner now and is expected to be a plus runner in the future.
Pastrano trains with Raul "Banana" Valera, a member of MLB's Trainer Partnership Program, in the Dominican Republic. The Indians are the favorites to sign him.
The other kid the Indians signed is Luis Durango from Panama, whose dad played in the big leagues as well (they have the same name), the dad is only 33 so this kid has to be young. His dad played CF in the pros for a couple seasons and at one point stole 46 bases in the minors.

Also they have a pool of 6.48 mil to spend and have only spent 2.05 mil, so they still have a lot of room to sign more guys. The Indians have done a great job in recent years getting guys from the international pool hence why I am posting this since it was one of their strengths overall as an organization.
