2019 Minor League Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
There's really no place for Johnson this year with Puig added and Naquin playing well. Heck, even Allen is playing well recently. Johnson will get his chance in the spring.

I agree with this, but Karinchak is a better talent than Cole, so the question is do we wanna swap them out or not in due time?

Couple notes at this point about guys you probably don't hear a lot about throughout the season who have caught my eye.

Robert Broom: I think he has been talked about in here before because he is a sidearmer. But his stuff has been up this year. Sidearm is already tough to pick up, but when his stuff is getting up to 93/94 from that angle it makes him that much better. He's been very impressive, reason why is already in AA after being drafted last year. Not the biggest fan of sidearmers when they are more gimmicky, but he has the stuff regardless of mechanics.

Cody Morris: If he can stay healthy, this is our next Zach Plesac "where did he come from?" starter. Very similar pitching style to Plesac, mid 90s fastball, good change, doesn't walk a lot of people. Should start the year in AA next season as a 23 year old.

Jose Fermin: As if the Indians don't already have enough quality middle infielders in their system, Fermin has caught my eye a lot this year. Dude can really play a good SS and 2B, has a ton of range. He's starting to fill out his body as well, and is putting together a pretty impressive 20 year old season in Lake County. Bat was always behind the glove, but is starting to catch up a bit.

Skylar Arias: Indians lack in LHP bullpen prospects, and have for some time. He's the best of the lower level ones that I have seen this year. 95/96 with his fastball, good slider. Was suspended early in his career, so he is a bit behind where he could be. Strikes a lot of guys out.

Nick Mikolajchak: Good luck saying his name. But if you're looking for your next potential Karinchak out of the 2019 draft group, this is your guy. His stuff will play up as a pro moving forward, wouldn't be surprised to see 96/97 from him next year. Tough arm slot to pick up with one of the better breaking balls in our system. Putting up video game numbers right now, should be a fast riser.

Who in the lower minors could be that Mejia/Erik Gonzalez guy who could he targeted like Santander was in the Rule 5?

Also I am curious where you see Jared Robinson, Cam Hill and Kaminsky next season?

Is Fermin rule 5 eligible this winter?

We really don’t have a ton of notable guys to add to the 40 man roster this winter. Outside of Johnson, it would be the opinions on how the brass feels about protecting Tom, Mathias, Chu, Robinson, Hill etc. Most of the top pitching prospects we have don’t need to be protected so it would be how the FO and coaching staff feels about the upper level guys we have. I expect very little turnover this next off season. We should be bringing back 18-20 guys from this current roster if not more.

Apparently, Bo Naylor is starting to tear the cover off the ball.

Stats for the season don't reflect it, but I don't think anyone hits the ball harder in their system than Naylor.

The ever prevalent "launch angle" isn't there yet for him, hence the lower HR numbers and high 3B for a guy his size with his pop, but it will get there.

When you have a teen skipping over short-season A ball and going straight to 140 game full season ball, all you want to see is improvement from them, not really high production. High production is only from the cream of the crop. He has improved a good bit after a pretty rough start to the year.

Bradley has really struggled since returning to Columbus. Granted, only 21 games, but the high strikeout/low walk makes it hard to see him being an impactful big leaguer. We will see.

Baseball America has the Indians #12 as well, but it was updated a few days before the Bauer trade. Possible they could've slid up to #10 by adding Logan Allen and the Marlins graduating Isan Diaz

Top 100 was updated mid-July

49. Nolan Jones
72. Triston McKenzie
82. Tyler Freeman
86. Logan Allen
91. George Valera

48. Jones
71. McKenzie
81. Freeman
84. Allen
89. Valera

#10 Overall Farm System (was #12, jumped Seattle. Houston fell out of the Top 10 after Greinke trade & Yordan Alvarez graduation)

Kind of lost in everything yesterday.

Raynel Delgado was promoted to Lake County. Hasn't had a very good season, but yet another super young middle infielder earning an early promotion that is in our lower full levels.

Also, the Indians 3rd round pick from this year Joe Naranjo is starting to open some eyes, Got off to an atrocious start. 30 games since then has hit .308/.386/.385. The bat to ball skills that he was touted for pre-draft are starting to show up. Hopefully he grows into some power, he has a very pretty swing.

He is still very young so he's at least got that on his side. Power hitters tend to age a bit better too. He's just not ready for the MLB now. I was hoping that the call-up could act as a wake up call but I don't know if we've been seeing any evidence of that so far.
