2019 Minor League Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Espino went 3 IP, 3 H, 1 BB, 3 K, 2 ER in his 1st Mahoning Valley start. Got BABIP'd pretty bad to give up his 2 runs. Touching 98/99 easy with mid/high 70s curve and a mid-80s change. He needs some cleaning up of his mechanics, as its a bit easy to pick up his breaking ball due to his arm slot changing (3/4 when throwing a FB/change, more over the top on his curve), but man the potential is off the charts. He'll be pumping 100 easy in a year or 2. Hope he stays healthy.

Nolan Jones has homered in his last 2 games for Akron, bringing his total to 7 in 38 games for the Rubberducks. He had 7 in 77 games at Lynchburg.

14 in 114 games isn't bad for a 21 year old considering it took him over a month and a half to hit his first of the season (39 games). So, he's actually hit 14 in his last 75 games.

Carlos Vargas is having a quietly nice season at MV for a 19 year old.

Sits 95-97 with the FB. He'll top out at 100. Hard slider that might be one of the best in the org. The stuff is pretty nasty.

Yeah, his ERA is in the 5's but his FIP (3.33) and xFIP (3.42) are pretty much in line with Hankins while he was in MV.

Another bad outing for Logan Allen. 4.1 IP, 9 R, 8 ER, 9 hits, 4 walks, 1K. Yikes!

Espino just needs to stay healthy.

So much about him reminds me of pre-injuries Salazar. Small guy who just doesn’t look like he’s trying but he’s throwing absolute gas.

Needs to clean up a few things, and further develop his off speed, but health will be the most important thing for him as a prospect. He’s going to fly through the minors I think.

Let’s just hope he isn’t a head case like Salazar.

When they drafted him, I thought he was projected as a reliever. Are they stretching him out or was I wrong?

On top of what Derek said, the Indians would never spend their 1st round pick on a HS arm projecting to be a reliever.

He’s been starting and will continue to. He will only pitch 3-4 innings this year per start, and maybe 4-6 next year as he begins to throw more and more in an effort to keep him healthy, but he’s a starter at the MLB level. At the worst he’s a power bullpen arm, but that’s if injuries plague him as a starter.

Brayan Rocchio hit another HR tonight. His 3rd of the month, 4th of the season. He's weighs about 140 lbs....

.313 BA and an .857 OPS in August.

This is a significant development because, age-wise, he would've been eligible for the MLB draft as a HS Senior this year. Most guys his age are still in complex ball.

He might be the Indians #1 prospect in a year or so.
