2019 MLB Trade Deadline

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Kipnis and Oliver Perez as well. Not sure the status of Mike Freeman. And the Indians could probably bring all of those guys back, if they'd like. Don't think Kipnis is going to have much of a market; Perez and Clippard had super limited markets last year and will be 38 and 35 by Opening Day next year.

Regardless, there aren't any looming major losses, like Santana and Brantley the past 2 years.
We have control over Kipnis. We're just not going to bring him back for $16.5 million. It really wouldn't surprise me to see him re-sign here at a lower figure, but we'll see what happens with our 2B position in 2020 when we get there.

With 38 appearances already, it looks like Perez's option is going to vest. He only needs 55 appearances on the year to lock in a 2.75 million dollar option next season. 60 appearances pushes that to $3m.

Good point on Freeman. I assumed that with only a couple years in the majors he's still under team control, but I honestly have no idea about his contract situation. He might be a free agent.

Freeman, arbitration eligible in 2022, and free agent in 2024.

The Indians are set up well to just wait and look for opportunities. The Gomes trade was perfect - picked up three young players they like (outfielder, infielder and pitcher), saved money, and promoted the better catcher to full time starter. They swapped EE for Carlos, which is a win, and Diaz for Bauers, which currently looks like a loss but time will tell, and saved a bit of money. They didn't trade either Kluber or Bauer because the return wasn't right.

At this point they've weathered a bit of a perfect storm of injuries coupled with the surprising Twins surge and remain solidly in contention for the postseason. I think they will look for a unique opportunity - trading a minor leaguer they felt was overrated for two back end relief pitchers with three+ years control is an example from a year ago - but they won't overreact in a wild attempt to get over the top in 2019.

Just my sense of things. The Donaldson trade looked like a unique opportunity last year but it turned out to be a mistake IMO. I don't think they repeat that this year.

If, as expected, the asking price for Castellanos is rather low, what is the argument for the Tribe not to trade for him? It makes too much sense to me now that they’re only four games behind the Twins, especially if they don’t plan on calling up Johnson before September.

Castellanos is a guy I'd settle for as DH the rest of the year.

Any chance the Rangers are willing to eat most of Choo's deal? I'd love to bring him home and let him DH this year and next. His OBP fits right into our lineup really well.

Honestly, you couldn't ask for a better time to have a high end pitcher on the market.....

The Astros, Yankees, Rays and Brewers are in pretty desperate need of starting pitching. The Cardinals, Angels, Phillies and Padres might need starting pitching depending on how the standings shake out.

Then you have the pitching market:

- Maybe Marcus Stroman?
- Robbie Ray
- Madison Bumgarner
- Maybe Matthew Boyd?
- Maybe Aaron Sanchez?
- Maybe Mike Minor?
- Tanner Roark? Joey Lucchesi? Zack Wheeler?

....... Woof

Trevor Bauer is the best pitcher on the market by a considerable margin. Both Jeff Passan and Buster Olney have said MLB evaluators believe this as well.

We'll see what happens.

I'd pull the trigger on that deal.

I also like something like Choo + LeClerc from Texas.

Sign me up!

Jeff Passan says the Padres have made Franmil Reyes, Hunter Renfroe and Minor Leaguer pitchers Michael Baez and Adrian Morejon available in various trade scenarios.

It's not in the Indians DNA to make a DH the centerpiece return in a trade for their front of the rotation SP but I do like Franmil. It'd probably take a prospect above these guys to get the Tribe FO to the table.

Edit: Fucking Bauer and these HR's he's giving up....

Was Alex Verdugo actually offered in a deal this past winter?

Again it is nice to talk about the “players in” kind of moves but who leaves

You mention Salazar Greene and Castellanos in .... who leaves .. the players you mentioned are not in the majors at this time

More than likely he was, but the dodgers werent willing to move other top prospects with him. Cleveland wanted like Him, and 1-2 more of their top 5 prospects plus 1-2 more of their top 15-20 range. So 4 of their top 15 prospects is what Cleveland wants and the Dodgers said no, so we didnt trade him for less than what we wanted.

On paper for me the trade works in the end. I just have question marks about two things, Greene has never had this type of production so I am not sure if I trust him to keep this up and two, is trading a catcher like Haase a smart move when we have a very weak system overall for catchers. It's between Chu and Ice as the next best catchers in your organization right now and neither of them could step in and play if there was an injury at the pro team.

Greg Allen, Plutko, and whoever you think our worst reliever is.
