2019 MLB Trade Deadline

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I assume that the expected price would be gutting your farm system for him. I don't think the Rockies would entertain talks with someone who values him simply at his OPS away from Coors Field.

I have no idea what I would do--I was just asking what a realistic price would be for him. That's still one part of baseball I can't ever really pin down accurately.

Heck, I might be very, very wrong, but I'd imagine the Rockies would be selling him as one of the best hitters in baseball, under multiple years of team control.

Colorado will try and get the deal you put up for him, but they will never get that type of deal. Blackmon is a 2 time All-star who has had MVP type of seasons and has been known for his durability. So its not he is a bad player, but if I was trading for him, I would value him for his road split numbers not his Colorado numbers. IF I go by his road numbers, he would only command maybe a Yu Chang level of prospect plus another prospect like Benson. His Coors Field numbers are close to the offer you put up. Indians may not even be willing to offer Chang + Benson for him (I personally wouldn't even trade for him)

Crazy when you look at the Rockies' players home vs. road OPS:

Nolan Arenado: 1.011 home, .835 away
Charlie Blackmon: 1.318 home, .657 away
Trevor Story: 1.019 home, .799 away
Daniel Murphy: .884 home, .734 away
Ryan McMahon: .879 home, .607 away
Ian Desmond: .891 home, .724 away
David Dahl: 1.004 home, .723 away

Here's a great article on the Coors Field impact: https://community.fangraphs.com/coors-field-blessing-or-curse/

I was wondering if it's possible that a hitter for the Rockies not only benefits from playing at Coors, but his road stats are hampered because he's not used to hitting in non-Coors parks. It looks like that idea could be backed up, but this article doesn't directly do that.

DJ LeMahieu would be a good case in point example of this. Pretty drastic difference in his home/away splits while with the Rockies. With the Yankees, his average and OBP are pretty similar across home/away

So I would think Blackmon, if traded, would find a solid balance. His age and contract coupled with that production will likely scare teams off. Like CarGo in the past, he's much more valuable to the Rockies than others.

If it was before the season started, I would have thought Blackmon would have been a target to replace Brantley, but right now, I would not trade for him.

Reasons why:

1) Blackmon is a career .259/.311/.426 away from Coors field.
2) He no longer plays a plus in the OF, so he would be a DH
3) Bats from the left side
4) Price would be way to high since he has team control, it would be to much on the budget and prospect wise going forward
5) He would not be an improvement over current players playing in the DH with his career road numbers.

Coors field numbers always take with a grain of salt, numbers are always higher than anywhere else. Usually if you cannot hit at Coors Field then you don't need to be in the pros period.

If we would be traded for any left handed OF, it would be like an Adam Eaton type of guy, who has a team friendly contract, plays a solid corner OF, and can be used just about anywhere in the lineup (Though we would use him at the top so Lindor can move down in the lineup).
Say they really wanted Blackmon, max who would you give up?

From Ken Rosenthal’s latest:

• The surging Indians could act as buyers and sellers, or even strictly as buyers. They have been exploring the additions of players under multi-year control at nearly all positions, including relievers.

Orioles right-hander Mychal Givens would fit that description — he has two years of arbitration remaining after this one. The Indians, Braves and Dodgers are among the teams said to be interested in him.

RCF favorite Nich Castellanos had some interesting comments today

After hitting a walk-off home run against the Blue Jays to snap a six-game losing streak, Tigers outfielder Nicholas Castellanos took issue with how many homers he has missed out on due to playing at Comerica Park.

"This park's a joke. It's to the point where, how are we going to be compared to the rest of the people in the league for power numbers, OPS, slugging and all this stuff when we got a yard out here that's 420 feet straight across in center field?" Castellanos said after Sunday's game.

The 372-foot home run (hit to left field) in the bottom of the 10th to give the Tigers just their 13th win at home this season was Castellanos' 11th of the season.

He led the majors in triples in 2017 and leads MLB in doubles with 34 this season, a fact he owes to Comerica's cavernous center field.

"We get on second base or third base, and they're looking, like, 'Man, how do you guys do this?' We play 81 games here. I don't want to hear about your two that you hit that are questionable," said Castellanos, who is slashing .284/.342/.480 this year.

"Move in center field, right center, there is no reason that I hit a ball 434 off [Washington Nationals right-hander] Anibal Sanchez and it goes in the first row, that shouldn't happen."

Castellanos, 27, is also a candidate to be dealt as the July 31 trade deadline approaches, but he said he isn't preoccupied with the speculation.

"I'm at the point where I really don't care what happens. Why care? I can't control it. Why care if one day my hair is going to turn gray if I can't control it? I don't know if that analogy makes any sense, but it popped into my head."

Still want this guy in this lineup badly. I'm not even sure what it would cost, or if Detroit would even listen to the offer from the Indians considering their in the same division.

A good deal is a good deal, however, so maybe it doesn't matter. I would be beyond excited if they added him, along with another pen guy for the long haul.

Fingers crossed.

I mean we dealt with them last trade deadline by trading for Martin. So it’s not unprecedented.

Castellanos on the cheap makes so much sense for this team.

His ability to take the ball the other way and pound the right center gap plays so well in Cleveland. Slots in perfectly into the DH role and can still see some time in RF on days where Naquin or Bauers can get a rest.

SS - Lindor (S)
CF - Mercado
1B - Santana (S)
DH - Castellanos
3B - Ramirez (S)
2B - Kipnis (L)
C - Perez
LF - Bauers (L)
RF - Naquin (L)

The way 7-8-9 are hitting right now, that's an October lineup.

The Tribe should have traded for him in the offseason instead of wasting time with Hanley Ramirez and CarGo, but at least they would only have to pay for part of his remaining salary if they deal for him now.

That lineup is going to make some legit noise in October.

Hope they get it done.

Sounds like to me almost everyone is an agreement of a Castellanos/Mancini style of player (RH that can hit), we would like at the trade deadline with the pipe dream of Merrifield. The question is what type of package would it take to get one?

Rumors around Givens, makes me feel like the Indians will attempt to deepen/improve the bullpen, but likely won't grab a short term rental to finish the season.

We about a week away ladies! Let's see how this FO manages this roster going forward. Also if no trade for a bat does happen, I expect Johnson to be called up to see if he can repeat in the pros!

Seems Bauer might be the black sheep now, perhaps?

Another BP arm would be nice, too.
