2019 MLB Trade Deadline

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
In your opinion, what are this team's biggest holes, and how would you like to fill them?

My take:
  1. DH. The biggest hole on this offense, and perhaps the easiest to fill, is a big stick at the DH spot. There should be a lot of bats on non-contending teams to pick from. Maybe at the top of the list is Joey Gallo, who still has 3 years of arbitration left, is OPS'ing at 1.050 and has a career high OBP of .411. Other top options for this spot would be Vogelbach, Mancini, or perhaps bringing back Shin Soo Choo or Edwin Encarnacion. I think that giving Bobby Bradley MLB at bats this season is a potential internal solution.
  2. Outfield. We have so much depth, but very little quality right now. Martin, Zimmer, Allen, Luplow, Bauers, Mercado... I'd love to see CarGo and Naquin be done with this organization, and instead just sort through the rest of these guys to figure out 2 positions. I want to go get a third OF to play every day. This is a bit harder to fill, but Gallo and Mancini are both repeat options here. The Mets have a bunch of intriguing guys I'd be calling about. Seattle has Haniger and Santana. Another potential move would be something like going all-in on Matt Chapman, and moving Jose back to LF rather than moving him to second base. I really wish we were able to sign McCutcheon or Adam Jones... not sure we'd be having this discussion if one of those guys was in the outfield for us every day.
  3. Bullpen. Here's where I'm willing to go dumpster diving. Our bullpen has been good, but come playoff time, you can never have enough weapons back there. I'd love to see some of our internal options get MLB time--but I'd also be on board bringing in some bullpen arms from teams that are out of the running
Would really like them to try for Mancini. Baltimore is so bad and probably will be for a few years so I am assuming some young pitching may work. I like the fact first he is a right handed stick and plays OF & 1B. Just turned 27 and can't become a free agent until 2023. I agree that Adam Jones would have been a good signing. He is having a solid year and only making $3M. I would not say no to Gallo either, but another lefty. His best year average wise this year.

In your opinion, what are this team's biggest holes, and how would you like to fill them?

1. RH everyday day player/hitter. We sincerely need someone from the right side of the plate, that can really hit plus has some power.

2. Solidified setup man, I know we are starting to get some arms together, but having a solid setup guy, especially with some team control would be nice.

3. Upgrade over CarGo in the OF. I think the rest of the OF will set itself, but one more veteran would be nice who is a better hitter overall.

Pretty much spot on, IMO. Every team could use another bullpen arm, but it has been solid so far and like you mentioned, we have internal options in Karinchak and Sadlin.

The team is really lacking power at DH and even one consistent, everyday OF would do this team wonders

I am actually looking at going for Adam Eaton and getting EE back from Seattle. Neither guy will be overpriced and both of them have team options, so neither team is originally keeping either guy for next season. Both teams want good young prospects back so I think we can make both deals work and possibly even still go get another reliever if need be since they will eat part of this years contract for a solid prospect.

I think the move is trading Bauer, and I'll explain why:

1) You still have Kluber, Carrasco, Clevinger, Bieber, Rodriguez for next year (and you're probably getting a SP back in the trade)

2) You're potentially selling high on him, which you failed to do with Kluber.

3) You can potentially fill several holes on this team in the right deal.

I'm not sure what a Padres deal would look like, but they're loaded with interesting bats and young arms and seem to really want an ace. Thoughts on what they may be willing to give up?

Franmil Reyes as part of any package.

They have to take on a big league ready bat with future middle of the order chops.

I'm assuming Tatis is off the table. I remember Margot, Hedges, Renfroe mentioned before.

As for SP guessing Paddock/Strahm would be as well? Maybe Lucchesi or Lauer?

Tatis, Paddack, Gore likely untouchable now

Yup, Padres should definitely be the team to watch. They have a logjam of talent in their OF and from the sound of things, they were already talking with the Indians all offseason.

Is his height (5'9) a concern for you considering the lack of major league starters that size outside of Marcus Stroman?

Durability is a definite concern. He's about 3 starts away from setting a new career high in IP (74 last year)

However, Frazier is a marquee trade chip as a young guy who has already shown the ability to play a high level in the majors. If you can get an elite level lotto ticket with him, that's a tremendous haul.
